Shotguns can be one shot kills
years of whinefire and the notion they’re the reason shooters are popular
like I said, less than 2% of the players but make up 80% of the whining
But the comp players is a main source of movies, so its not only whine.

(BioSnark) #102

Am I the only person around here who frequently gets bored watching frag movies?

(Nail) #103

never watch them

(Apples) #104

Frag movies are cool to watch, just because some impressive shot makes me lol… but there is a difference beetween frag movies, and nicely edited frag movies

Even a Mazarini? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5poTvpiM-Q
or mAus?

clearly you’ve been wronged by some “clannies” and hold a grudge, understandably so, because some are douches. Sorry you feel that way, you’re missing out on something great, may not be for you though, but chill.

Although maybe consisting of ~%2 of a gaming community it can potentially support longevity of a game and a single comp player can account for the hours of hundreds of pub players, potentially encouraging sales long after release. Imagine how much less attention W:ET would have gotten without a comp scene, hell W:ET source code was released under General Public License at QUAKECON 2010. I’m not saying it’s the reason for popularity but it definitely a factor and SD are thinking of these comp players because some have admitted to being so themselves. No reason to hate because what are the cons besides some people having some strange entitlement and calling themselves “comp” players. Just as dumb as the Xbox vs PC fights, you bought your thing i bought my thing we play on them /story.

So enough of perpetuating the whine and crackers, people can request whatever they want and if you have no business in it what does it bother you? What is so harsh to emotionally invest yourself into ignorant anger for?

Peace and dancing Strogg bananas:stroggbanana::stroggbanana:

(Nail) #107

W:ET popularity had NOTHING to do with the comp scene, it was the gameplay and nothing else. ET comp turned out to be (edited a paragraph of vitriol) 4 v 4 DM

(Weapuh) #108

That’s pretty limited view of everything, “Nothing” really? The TV servers dedicated to it, the internationally casted games, and the tournaments paid nothing to the game, really nothing? come on, get real. Gameplay was clearly a large factor because it was an amazing game, it wouldn’t have been touched by anyone if it were as flawed as BC2, which is why BC2 is a barely-existent comp game. You’re kidding yourself to say nothing. We get you don’t like it, but chill. We could talk about how great W:ET was all day, but turning forums into ‘Call of Duty ASCII’ version is weak.

(Nail) #109

meh, there were more than a million downloads of the game from our site alone, none of that was due to anything related to comp

(Weapuh) #110

You know each of the million downloads intention cause you’ve inspected the hundreds of clans on your clanpage made sure no comp connections lol. Hell I’ve downloaded the game at least 30 times until i finally made got fed up and made a backup with game, patch and config :S

(.Chris.) #111

It did result in lots of game fixes and such in ETPro that later formed the basis for a patch though, competition isn’t all doom and gloom

While the comp scene is maybe 2%, 80% of the whining is mostly coming from a vocal minority within that minority. There are lots of idiots, granted but this is true of all groups, competition and public alike.

I used to be of a similar opinion of competition players back in ET when I tried making a comp map for a crossfire LAN some years ago but after helping out and working on projects such as ET:QW Pro, Wolfpro, ET:QW maps and more recently my ET comeback map I’ve realised that competition players aren’t all that bad, they are typically very passionate about the games they play and as such know quite a bit about them games and can provide useful insight as a result when working on a project. As stated before though you do get idiots and you just have to try ignore them.

(Herandar) #112

Let the curmudgeon be curmudgeonly. It’s not like he’s harming anyone with his opinion.

Want some koekjes and warm milk, Nail?

(madoule) #113

lets go roeken in de koeken (peace-pipe)! anyone?

(Nail) #114

geez, can’t an old man get drunk and stupid at times ?

Chris is absolutely correct, the W:ET comp scene was the basis for ETPro, which of course was the best thing to ever happen to W:ET

I apologize to all, well not all, but the people I like
