On one hand, I know phantom is supposed to be a stealthy class, so perhaps a shotgun would complement his flanking abilities(or lack thereof at the moment) and make him weaker against people who keep their distance. On the other hand, it might make his Katana useless and maybe a Shotgun would be overpowered.
Shotgun replacement for Phantom? Good/bad idea?

But you could at least say “it’s bad because x” instead of saying “lol you idiot”.
Honestly, I think a new merc with their own exclusive shotgun would be pretty cool.
Like a sawed off shottie.
But not for phantom
Bad Idea because
- I don’t like shotguns.
- They would make Phantom even more situational locking him, into a close combat role in any situation (like Rhino but with less HP/DPS)
- Shotguns either need a fast or very Tanky Merc additional damage income to work (i.e. Aura/Proxy/Rhino or Stickies/Minigun).
I kinda like the idea of allowing Phantom to use a shotgun on non-katana loadouts.
Remburg might be a good 4th weapon if we ever get there.
as someone that owns but doesnt necessarily enjoy playing phantom, I would welcome replacing at least 1 gun with a shotgun. pre nerf i tried to play him as a 357 magnum assassin.
basically if you DONT want to play the phantom as a katana assassin (remember only 3 loadouts get katana), the SMGs dont quite have the killing power sometime even if you manage to sneak to the flanks or behind the enemy. a shotgun would
I am not against, nor am I in favour. Thus if they do decide to increase the number of loudouts for mercs, I guess Shotguns for Phantom could be something worth to consider.
So many one shots would happen. The crying for his nerfs would be even worse than before xP
Reason why this is a bad idea.
Phantom comes close up to you to kill you. He misses. Then he 1 or 2 shot kill you with his shotgun.
Makes him op, since he will always be in close quarters anyway.

so, the key here is, phantom only gets katana on 3 loadouts.
suggestion: replace one of his smgs (crotz or blish?) with a shotgun. basically ONLY on non katana loadouts, to make those loadouts more viable.
or maybe give him access to machine pistol secondaries on some loadouts?
basically, if his ability is going to suck / be marginal, He needs more killing power outside of the katana IMO (katana is stupid).
Ive always tried to play phantom as a flanking gunplay merc since day 1, and sadly he just plays like a worse nader/bushwacker/bones.
tl:dr: the class is completely designed/balanced around the katana/stealth ganking potential right now, which makes any gun based playstyle or loadout completely outclassed by other mercs. id rather flank with aura/proxy due to speed/shottys, AND get the team play potential
Shotguns are underpowered in this game. But better then over powered red screen gun so I’m on the fence with this one.
Shotguns already make meleeing with a katana redundant, giving him one would completely erase the point of having a katana.
Phantom was balanced but sword was too op vs noobs so they nerfed phantom, phantoms weapons and ruined melee.
Give him a “ranged sword” and they will ruin the game compeletely to make the noobs happy…
again, the katana is only on 3 loadouts. how is it redundant on the other 6? why not make some of the other 6 more viable or a different playstyle. personally id love to see loadouts with a shotgun primary and smg secondary for him (no katana)
