Shotgun replacement for Phantom? Good/bad idea?

again, the katana is only on 3 loadouts. how is it redundant on the other 6? why not make some of the other 6 more viable or a different playstyle. personally id love to see loadouts with a shotgun primary and smg secondary for him (no katana)[/quote]

A shotgun can one shot Mercs at Range, Katana can only 1 shot when touching a Merc with less than 100 hp. And melee gets the downside of getting locked into the attack allowing for enemy merc to simply 180 and shoot you in the face while walking backwards while you can do literally nothing about it.

Shotgun has no drawback with such good short - Mid range damage and Fairly decent Long range damage.

So if you give Phantom loadouts with the shotgun why pick a loadout with the katana which will handicap you?

Won’t be effective at range. Phantom already has enough limitations on his effectiveness based on map location without losing the kek.

so, the key here is, phantom only gets katana on 3 loadouts.

suggestion: replace one of his smgs (crotz or blish?) with a shotgun. basically ONLY on non katana loadouts, to make those loadouts more viable.

or maybe give him access to machine pistol secondaries on some loadouts?

basically, if his ability is going to suck / be marginal, He needs more killing power outside of the katana IMO (katana is stupid).

Ive always tried to play phantom as a flanking gunplay merc since day 1, and sadly he just plays like a worse nader/bushwacker/bones.

Well actually, he will be even more op. Just think about it for one moment. He is used for stealth. Even if Phantom has a knife, he can just sneak up on you and 1 shot you with his shotgun using his ability. Plus, missing with a Katana is a big giveaway, and you’ll almost certainly be dead. With a shotgun and a knife, sneak up, shotgun 1 hit kill, and knife.

A sawed-off shotgun with 2 shells and extremely short range instead of his smg, i think that’s ok TBH. It’d even be a nerf to him because he’d have no range except for his pistol
