Setting up the server

(BlackEight) #1

Hello there
I need a piece of advice…am looking for a good dedicated server. I wish i had no lags and good bandwitch in there. Can you suggest one? I want to run 2 game servers (43 slots each), 1 training server and keep website on it. I also want it to be somewhere in Europe. I can afford for the root from 120euro - 250euro.

Kind regards

… every server (root) i had was really good in the beginning
… after 5-6 months they started to lag/going nuts
… so i cant give you a good reference atm

I have been at a company for 3 years now with good service and the price around your budget. I have pm’d you about it cuz I can’t spam here in the forums ^^

You can spam me <3. (lol)

It would be cool if you tell us wich company you advise so we can discuss too. Maybe there are better offers then yours, thats the idea of the topic :wink:

ps. we have one in Germany (Hetzner.de) and its pretty good for mid-class servers :slight_smile:
The only shitty thing about it is that the americans/brasilians/japanese have high pings, so mostly only Europeans have good pings.
So maybe this would be a nice server aspect to check out before you rent a server.

ps. this is a good forum for some good advise : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

Im interested in new good host companies too, Paul if you can send me the PM about this company.
About Webhostingtalk its a great site to check the offers but becarefuly i have rented a server some time ago with a reseller of burst.net i get in the forum of webhostingtalk and i got my money stoled.

I run my ET servers on a Debian server at Leaseweb.nl The best, fast and cheapest in Euro.

http://www.leaseweb.com/nl/dedicatedserver/readytouse/type/linux (second nr 6)

39 euro a month.

zbzero & paul, does this topic has any meaning at all if you start PM stuff ?
I really want to know what Paul is giving as an advice for a descent server when a guy wants to pay max 200 bucks…

(system) #9

We got this one Blowfish : http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ds3000/
We talked about leaseweb too. Personally for the cause so we could host a game with swastikas
The laws are a bit better in Holland than in Germany…but i think for what we payis it is pretty good ,:slight_smile:

Hym, thanks for your feedback:)
Ive checked the hetzner and i can remember that some other guys mentioned about that one. I wonder whether this german servers are not too overloaded : / You know what i mean, everybody tucking thier servers in there. About that NL ive heard that Gameservers got there pretty efficient dedicated servers. Yet it struck me when i found out that they redirect channel goes through the Chicago! I mean, wth?

http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/eq4/

Intel® Core™ i7-920 Quadcore
incl. Hyper-Threading Technology

* RAM 8 GB DDR3 RAM
* Hard discs 2 x 750 GB SATA-II HDD
  (Software-RAID 1)
* NIC 1 GBit OnBoard
  connected at 100 MBit
* Backup Space 100 GB
* Traffic Unlimited*

With 4 dedicated IPs

That one appears to be good. Is there any chance the install the website into it , i wonder

Can you speak more openly please? I mean, i checked what theyve got and its not that flashy you know. Having lags at your server? Hym, do you keep the website on it?

Best regards

(Blowfish) #12

I run a NQ (24 slots), a Jaymod (32 slots), a TJMOD (10 slots) , an apache website, my download area for the maps/etc on it easy… No lags at all, they are on the backbone of the net. You have a lot of providers why say they have all kinds of good stuf, but then you find out your traffic is going trough Australia or so :). I think I can probably add another 24 slots server to it without getting any lag. But to much work ;-). They also have good support and are fast!

(system) #13

What do you mean by "That one appears to be good. Is there any chance the install the website into it , i wonder " ?
Anyway, if you can spend that much money for a server monthly, consider a “unmetered” one.

(Paul) #14

I was talking about beneluxgaming(.com)
He’s buying new servers atm so everything is possible!

(system) #15

32 bucks for a 32 slot WolfET server monthly ? Isnt that a bit expensive for what they offer ?.

(stealth6) #16

I thought we were talking about dedis?

(system) #17

btw. That EQ4 server looks really nice :slight_smile:
You can easily run 2 gameservers on it and host a few pages.
tbh. i dont know how good the server/pings will be if both servers are full.
But with linux you can use core1 for server1 and core2 fore server2 for example but i dont have any experience with 2 full 43 slot servers :frowning:

The good thing at hetzner is, you can cancel the account monthly.

(BlackEight) #18

How about such DRS:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+

* RAM 2 GB DDR
* Hard discs           2 x 160 GB SATA
           (Hardware-RAID 1)
* NIC 1 GBit OnBoard
* Backup Space 100 GB
* Traffic Unlimited*

It has 7 Dedicated IPs and PHP/MySQL. Will this work?

(valkyr) #19

These guys seem to be decent : http://www.ycn-hosting.com

(zbzero) #20

Kimsufi (OVH) have low prices and decent servers for run ET servers i used it some time ago and no lags at all, they are very cheap, but for me not work anymore becouse need be a Europe man to rent it, they use some SMS verification, but if i was a Europe guy i will still use them to host my et servers.
Et not need a good machine to run it the necessary is a decent and stable connection.
About game companies the YCN is very good host, and they give full access to setup your server, and they have already almost everything pre-installed just need a few clicks to add mods/omnibots and others stuffs and the better in this company is the founder is a guy who plays ET.
