Portforwarding is needed if you are behind a router, cause then your external IP leads to your router, so your router then needs to tell the packets where to go from there.
If your pc is the only one in the network, then it’s not needed. (so your pc is plugged straight into the modem - no router)
If you’re just setting up a server to try things with friends and your in a network with a router, then log into the router interface and forward the port 27960 to your local IP address (normally something like 192.168.1.101 etc…)
Then start the server, specifics about this can be learnt by reading mod manuals etc… Not really something I can explain quickly.
You can also use the ingame menu but then you wil have a really basic server.
Then find your external IP by going to one of the sites like whatismyip.com (google something like this)
Then tell your friends to connect to that IP.
Also use a fresh install for your server, otherwise you will probably get loads of errors and problems.
Ok.
Im not running a server 24/7 i just want to have a game with my friends every now and then.
so do I:
Forward port 27960
Find my ip.
Host an internet game.
Tell friend to connect to ip.
is that all?
You must be sure of you can host your server. Probably when there connect more then 5 players you server will get in a lagg…
Only 1 thing important for now. What’s your ISP connection at home ? And not only the download speed, but even more important the upload speed.
a LAN party is much easier to configure, near infinite bandwidth, all players have low latency, etc. Throw a party in your garage!
