Server won't show up in game browser or ASE

I’m behind a NAT router, and when I choose Host Game nobody else can see my server. I downloaded ASE to check, and it doesn’t show up in there either.

I’ve forwarded the ports 27940-27970 to my comp. What else do I need to do? Does it have something to do with the “set net_ip” command in ET?

…also my friend, who is not behind a NAT router but is just using an NTL box/modem, can not make a server either. It won’t show up for me anywhere.

All firewalls are off, um there’s no other info I can think of.

Obviously we’re both doing something wrong here, but what!?

It has to be a dedicated server I believe, unless ET can run a listen server that you can play on at the same time like other games. I only run local servers to test settings and stuff so I’m not an expert, maybe someone else can verify/refute this.

Oh OK thanks I didn’t know that

It’s sorted now though, I didn’t realise we can just connect directly using IP, didn’t think that would work but it does, so I’m not really bothered about it showing up in the list as long as we can play
