Mustang, yeah - the first error seem to be just the one we kind of identified. Second one seems weird though, do you know what map it tried to load and what map was currently running?

Looks like it was running maps/sp/challenge_01.entities, what’s next in rotation?

challenge_01 isn’t in the map rotation
I believe it was trying to recover from being hijacked
i.e. The hijack session was over and it was trying to reinitialize back the it’s previous config
But then it hits a great big fat:

Since SD didnt fix the server crash issue, I coded a tiny freeware tool that starts and monitors Brink servers. When they crash or go offline they get restarted instantly so you dont have to check every few minutes if your server ist still runnning. Its very resource saving and works OK on my Windows 2008 root server. Its a dotNET 2.0 console application and its closed source since it could be abused to start other than the brink server software. You can get it from our clan page:

Just unzip and run “Brink Serverdoctor.exe”. It tells you in the first lines of the console text how to use.

Seems like a good idea, but is it really?
If the server is crashing frequently, but your program instantly restarts it, the server Admin might never know that their is a problem with that server,and even worse he could lose his regular clients and not know the reasons why.
Would be ok if the Admin had just the one server and played on it himself, he would notice the crash/restart, but if he had multiple servers the crashes might go unnoticed.

You can see restart notices in the applicationa console and in Brinks logfiles. Sure you should check once in a while, but as an admin you should check anyway. Since the patch I had only 1 crash, but nevertheless Im glad the server has been restarted automalicly since at 3:15 in the morning I would not have seen It and the server would have stayed off a couple of hours.

My server has been up for over 36hrs now, i must be lucky. (thats probably the kiss of death now)
Some guys on here have multiple servers, they can’t spend their time looking through server logs all day, especially when their appears to be nothing wrong with the server, and its still running.
Don’t get me wrong, im not knocking your application, i think its a good idea, but it might not suit everybody thats all.

I’m sure that I’m not the only server admin that has taken the position of not running our servers until SD looks at the server crashing seriously and comes up with a final fix.

And I’m sure more will join me in doing so after countless amount of server crashes they keep on experiencing.

Sad that none of this was actually beta tested before release. This game is on life support already and SD don’t appear to give a damn.

My server has now been up for nearly 48 hrs, after the hotfix, so i don’t agree that they don’t give a damn, and i dunno why some servers are still crashing, but perhaps they don’t know about the fix that was released on Friday night.

Since the patch our 4 servers haven’t gone down once! Really great news and much needed improvement to the problems we had before. This also shows that Splash Damage does listen to us and don’t just leave us hanging with server stability issues for 6 months like Treyarch did with Black Ops.

I really hope they will give us another patch with some useful cvars and some more attention to the administration part of the game (of which there are remenants from before that works pretty well) and then maybe a linux version of the server to please the nix-crowd.

Anyways, I am really happy with the hotfix and look forward to what will come next. Maps and mod tools would be great, along with some sort of way to get pure player stats from the server.

Since connection to the steam server can still be interrupted and the server apparently gives up after 30 seconds and shuts down - I would like to once again request that the console closes itself when the server shuts down so we don’t need special scripts to monitor our servers.

This is the first time I’ve experienced the servers shutting down when the connection to STEAM is lost.

We were in game and were suddenly booted out to the XP gained screen.
A notification popped up that there was a lost connection to STEAM client side.

I checked our main server box and found both BRINK servers to be disconnected as well.
Our L4D, L4D2, DODS and FAS servers remained up with players still connected.

STEAM disconnects are not unusual but in TF2, Killing Floor, Day of Defeat Source and Left4Dead, Left4Dead2, Fire Arms Source, players may not even realize that it happens as the servers keep running.
This server disconnect appears to be a BRINK specific problem. :frowning:

After 3 disconnects over 30 minutes, our BRINK party called it a night.
I’m leaving the BRINK servers shut down until tomorrow.

It wasn’t just a Brink problem, other games were affected as well, it was a Steam problem, seems to be all right now.

I know that the problem initiated with STEAM instability last night, likely due to the Steam client update.
However, our L4D, L4D2, FAS, DODS servers on the same server box (Windows 2003 64 bit) did not shutdown nor did the players lose connection.

Having a full server disconnect repeatedly is a fine way to lose clients with comments of shoddy server setup and poor administration. We had talked players into reinstalling BRINK to give it another try last night but after the serial disconnects they left.

What other games did you experience the server shutdown in?

and btw, just checked our servers this morning and again:
