Server failure on Linux with 6 map campaign script

(Spacker) #1

I have setup a script to run all 6 maps in one campaign by editing an existing script and making my own pk3 file. This gets downloaded to clients fine, and seems to run ok for a while. However, after running twice (I have 2 vars with the vstr commands to run the campaign) with no problems, during the 3rd run the server stalls. Memory usage remains as it does throughout the running of the first 2 campaigns, CPU is around 50%, but nothing happens - ASE shows the ping as 9999, the console just shows the last action recorded (eg. someone shooting someone else). I don’t have logging enabled, and there is plenty (>2GB) of free disk space. I’m running Debian Linux from an xterm window in KDE 2.x. This server has been running RtCW for over 8 months without a single problem.

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong? I’m tempted to go back to the normal campaigns, but we’ve had great response from players for running 6 maps in one campaign. However, having to remote access the server every couple of hours and kill the etded process is a bit tedious, and I’m not always around.

The server is at 212.135.149.19:27962 [AGW] ET Server

I don’t have the answer to your question but i just think it’s strange to run a server in KDE, if your X crash that sucks.
It’s just my opinion

Well so far in 8 months X has never crashed once. In fact ET is the only thing it’s ever had a problem with - occassionally the test would sigterm, but the full version doesn’t even do that, it just hangs.

You really are not going to get any replies here on server crashes. This forum is about ET map editing, not server crashes.

Moving to General Discussion.

I am running two servers on linux boxes with the 6 map campaign and am having no problems (other than those discussed as general server crashes). In fact, we even edited one of the pk3 to run a 5 map campaign and it works just as well
