well, actually you shouldn’t apply the patch (unless you are running a dedidated server) i was just wondering.
btw the servers you mention run both the 1.00 and the 1.01 server (you can find out looking at the date, may 27 = 1.00, jun 24 = 1.01) so that’s not a issue either.
You could run a listen server with 3-4 slots (depending on your available upstream bandwidth and have some friends connect to you) or have a friend host a server and try to connect to him and see what happens or what (if any) messages appear at the server console…
I assume pb is updated and you have no problem contacting pb auth server for “cdkey” auth ?

I was getting this all the time , after every map. I dissabled punkbuster and no more probs. Was playing 6 maps for over three hours with no disconnect. Also, game loads much faster.

Correct. I’m getting this all the time and it is just because map loading goes slow. My GC and OS are the worst choice for a gamer, but hey! It was my parents’ choice. However, when u get disconnected the ppl in-game get the message “<yourname> msg overflow” what’s up with that?

When a 2nd PC on my LAN connects to a server, both clients receive the same error “Server disconnected for unknown reason” 1 PC will remain connected for many maps, until a second PC connects and both clients get kicked (<4mins) :???:

For some reason ET almost always says ‘unknown reason’. Two most likely causes of this error

  • you installed et on one computer, and copied it to the other. That gives you duplicate GUIDs. To avoid that, remove the etkey file from one computer. You may have to use \pb_cdkeyreg to get a new key.
  • you are sharing an IP, and haven’t set your net_port to be different on each computer

Only getting an “unknown reason” upon disconnects is a server bug in the 2.56 etmain code. It is fixed in ETPro3.0.1 and later. So, If you connect to an ETPro server, you should be getting the actual reason for being disconnected. As realP said, it’s most likely a duplicate GUID.

I got this error all day and eventually found out, after some probing, that it was an invalid color code character in my name which caused it. I cannot remember which chracter, but changning it solved my problem.

Just get your computer running good as well. A stable computer is faster and wont crash or have something like this. Even my old PII 350 MHz, 256 MB, nVidia GeForce 2 mx400 64 MB can run ET without any problems. Running windows XP pro SP2 on that PC as well. around 25 fps on 640x480 low.
