well it is a biggy, cos i have a slower computer and it takes about 10 seconds here to show that message.
and 10 seconds is pretty damn long!!!
(15 to start the game up, 15 seconds to generate the serverlist, 10 seconds tell me my ping is too high, 10 seconds when reconnecting, 15 seconds to load the map, THEN I can play…
)
ok… i get the same message over and over… and i’m getting mad…
my specs:
amd xp 2.0+
256ram ddr @ 333mhz
ati radeon 9700 pro
when i join a server it takes like 3,4,5 minutes to load a map… when the round is over it starts to load the next map… when the loading progress bar is full i get the “server disconnected for unkown reason” message…
now… i’ve uninstalled the game 3 times now… no changes… i tried to mess with com_hunkmegs and set it up to 192megs and still no changes… i tried to mess with com_zonemegs (a q3 cvar for the memory that is allocated for loading maps and textures) and ET won’t let me change it…
i don’t know what is happening here… it’s not my cfg fault 'cause i tried to use the default settings and still got nothing…
if someone knows whats happening or how to change this to get it working i would really appreciate it…
and btw: RTCW runs fine… no probs… since the last 2 years i play rtcw online and it never happened somthing like this… i’m going nuts 'cause i play on a online gaming clan and if i don’t fix this i’ll have to stop playing because i loose my XP points on every reconnect…
what a pain :x
please help
thx in advance

I have been having this issue as well, only intermittently.
I suspect it affects players going thru routers or firewalls?? - most times the map eventually loads, occasionally I have to reconnect - sometimes it takes mutliple tries before I recon successfully
I think its also related to PB, b/c when I drop console Im often hanging on contacting PB- evenbalance.com or having just received info from PB.
loading the map is client side, but you do have to synch w/ the server for player and game info - perhaps its this synching that is messing some people up. There also seems to be certain routers that ET - PB hate, dont ask me how - altho one poster says that DLink, for instance - has routers that are out of industry spec - dont ask me why. : )
I recommend waiting to see if the map loads, if it fails you will be greeted by server discon’d for unknown reason - if you have a router or firewall, try bypassing it to see if that resolves issue. Ive also seen this happen when trying to con to a server w/ only one slot open, and you get beaten to it by another player . Id also guess that on nights when alot of folks are connecting to PB servers, the master pb server takes a beating , maybe has problems keeping up w/ all the requests its getting - just a guess
If it is slow map loading, maybe it’s your hard drive causing the bottleneck. Try defragmenting.
…
Hehe, silly Windows, still needing defragmenting.
Well, I have no idea. Did you redownload ET or did you just use your local copy? It’s not unheard of that a download gets corrupted. Anyone have an MD5 of the Windows ET zip/exe?
It could just be a weird combination of server settings, maps, and your computer. In that case, a lot of trial and error is gonna be needed.
For debugging purposes, reproducibility would make fixing the problem so much more easier. If you can find a server or a set of conditions that always boots you, this problem could be fixed fast.
are you behind a router or firewall ?
if so, try bypassing it as a test
gl
Hm… I found out that its mostly because you timed out because of inactivity. Lets say you made it through the first map… when you’re going onto the second, it finishes loading, and then the server disconnected for unknown reason. Its because you were inactive in the server, so it automatically kicked your out.
Many people must be :???: :???: after reading my post, so don’t let it bother you…
Try reconnecting to the server and see if someone actually saw the disconnect message from the server. It probably gave some reason for the disconnect on the server. If you can find out what the message is it will help you find out what the problem is.
did u apply the 1.01 server side patch to your client?
maybe there’s some incombatibility there cause i sometimes see in game
‘client disconnected client/server mismatch’ (or something like that)
that shouldnt be an issue but who knows…
yes i am… but as usual… bypassing it didn’t change anything…
used a local copy but it’s fine… copied to a CD so a friend of mine could install it and he didn’t get any troubles…
any of these servers gives me that error:
[ SAPOPlay | WAR-ZONE ] Wolfenstein:ET Campaign|33ms|212.113.174.97:27950
[ SAPOPlay | WAR-ZONE ] Wolfenstein:ET Ojective|17ms|212.113.174.97:27960
[ SAPOPlay | WAR-ZONE ] Wolfenstein:ET StopWatch|17ms|212.113.174.97:27970
ClanHosted - RTCW Enemy Territory OBJ|1742ms|195.23.133.157:28960
nope… should I?
guys thx a lot for your replys… if someone finds the solution for this i’ll kiss him
eheh
thx again
:jah:
PS: btw why am I not allowed to change com_zonemegs cvar? ET doens’t change it… always keep’s latching it :x
amd xp 2.0+
256ram ddr @ 333mhz
ati radeon 9700 pro
Why not try boosting your ram? 256 will be feeling the strain of your system spec.
i could… if i had the money right now…
but only ET is acting strange… i can play RTCW fine… quake3 fine… ut2k3 no complaints… i know ET is a bit heavy but this is too much no?..

We get this problem on LAN with Punkbuster disabled, so it isn’t likely to be PB related. This also rules out firewalls in our case at least.
Which var controls the server timeout? I’d like to up it a bit on our servers because some people on our LAN (with older, slow HDs) consistently fail to connect on their first attempt for the first round.
This was in my console when I got the message:

but is this a ET bug?
it only happens in ET :’(
i guess i’ll stick with rtcw :’(((((((((
very sad indeed… :’(
:jah:
jah,
youve got yourself a good one
i looked over the condump, seemed to have failed to load something …
I would try pokin around your bios, cant hurt, is it possible your ram timings are too aggressive? … check to see if agp fast writes are enabled - or try tweaking agp related timings - try flashing your bios - it could be that simple : ) and some of these suggestions did help a clanmate who was experiencing game crashes - not sayin your prob is related or the same - just tryin to brain storm ideas
gl and dont give up
