We are currently testing a patch on public servers at Splash Damage, id Software and Activision. Providing this patch remains stable, we hope to release it to Server Administrators within the coming week. This would be a server-only patch and would not need to be installed by players.

Please put back in the FREE MOUSE LOOK so that i can see a medic aproaching when i’m hit. dispite the this could be used as cheating… kill the boddies :wink:

I’d be happy to test it on the ECGN 64 player server… It would be the ultimate test! Server goes from 0 players to 64 players in less than 30 seconds typically. I haven’t been keeping it online do to the frequent crashes. Let me know…

I second that. Never mind the “looking for a medic”, with the current arrangement of fixed facing when you’re motrally wounded it makes it much more difficult to appraise the local situation. Which makes trying to decide whether it’s worthwhile waiting around for a medic almost impossible. Hmmm… perhaps I should be using the map more.

Would be interesting to hear from the SD developers on design decisions like this - presumably they have good reasons for implementing things the way they have. How about it, SD? Have you got time to put up a bunch of articles on your website explaining why you did things the way you did? (Probably not, you’ve done enough for free as it is, ISTM :wink: )

Lol i know what you mean. It has gotten so bad the servers will always crash in 1-4 hours. Not much folks dares to complain about this game because its free but i am afraid we got our moneys worth on the server side of this game. Find it weird the game was released with such a critical error and wonders and wonders… You fill in the rest.

Dont get me wrong when it works it an awsome game.

Ok i’m tired of crashing servers and if there is something like a beta floating around i’d happily sign up for it.

I run two servers on godzilla.uib.no and ludo.uib.no.

It’s still being tested on the servers they released it to. I’m sure as they get input from the server admins, they’ll release it for public use.

As far as I can tell from running the vanilla release (on Linux) is that keeping it simple (Objective, no antilag and very conservative settings) results in great stability. I have one like this that has been running for ~1049m in CPU time. I seem to have forgotten when I started it, presumably in anticipation of short uptime.

The other server runs campaigns (both vanilla and custom, web redirects of downloads etc …) this one has unpredictable uptime and performance. I have sporadically been looking at the serverload value and haven’t really gotten any wiser.

I had hoped my first post wasnt going to be a whiney plead for a patch…

First off: MASSIVE kudos to SD for a spectacular game. Fun as hell. Sounds and looks great. I’m hooked on Wolf all over again, and so is my clan.

The patch…I know you guys are working on it. I know it is in testing. But this crashing is KILLING me. I admin our box and my troops are restless. :blah:

SD: This is a marvelous game. As soon as I can keep the server up consistently, all my guys will be happy. And then, only then, can I sleep at night.

Awesome games guys, but please, please send some kinda quick patch or fix out to the large servers, please please please!!! I was playing happy penguin last night and it couldn’t stay up for hardly 1 map, let alone an entire campaign!! A bug this serious should have been squashed during testing! Now its been nearly 3 weeks and SD haven’t so much as updated us on their progress, people are REALLY getting sick of this crashing issue. Its about to ruin ET for a lot of people who will just play another game that doesnt crash continually. I know its free and you guys could probably care less, but if you’ve taken the time to craft such a fun and enjoyable game, it would be a damn shame to have it ruined because of poor testing/support. I would have gladly paid 5-10$ for this game, i really do enjoy playing it when its stable. I just can’t believe bugs that are taking them THIS long to fix weren’t found in testing. Anyway, I don’t want to sound like im bitching, I think ET is a lot of fun, I would just like it to be stable, and am wondering why a supposed server-side only patch is taking THIS long…

Geez, give them a break. They are working on the patch. I’m sure Happy Penguin has the patch. Activision and Splash released a new version of the patch yesterday to some of us (and Im fairly sure this includes Happy Penguin). It takes time to test patches under different loads and get input back from us. I run 10 ET servers and even before the patch, the crashing wasnt that bad. And I see no evidence that any crashing that is occuring is affecting the amount of players. Servers are extremely packed.

In the last week I have seen 3 different beta server patch’s.
So from what I can see, They ARE working on it.

I would say another week or two until the official server side patch is all tested and released(FngrzX’ed for sooner).

This is my opinion from what I have seen.

P.S. Shitkicker(HP admin) stated that he would wait till the official patch came out. ( But if he had it , I’d think he’d use it, he had stated he heard it was to be released this week, so was just waiting. )

Cut SD some slack. I think they DO care, somehow… as would anyone who creates a work of art :slight_smile:

As for me, I need servers to crash MORE often so I get a break from the addiction :smiley:
