Server crash

(highboy) #1

Hi guys !

We have been running a 20 player server (SenF) @ Jolt for some time now, but we have one big problem !

It crashes every two or three hours…

We had a 20 player server running Linux and no problems there, but then we got a Überserver Lite plus (Win2000) 32 player and now we have crash problems every day.

  1. We have tried to lower the players from 32 to 20 but that does not help

  2. Have increased the com_hunkmegs, helped a little, but not much

  3. Then we created another server on the same machine using the same server.cfg (Just renamed) and called it server 2, and the funny thing is this game NEVER crashes this server only has 12 slots.
Both servers run at the same time

  4. The server is running the ET patch !

Server 1 running on port 27960
Server 2 running on port 27962

Any suggestions would be appreciated…

Same problem here, both servers running under unix (FreeBSD).

Server 1 with max 18 players never or almost never crashes.
Server 2 with max 20 players crashes atleast once a day, but most of the time two or three times a day.

Both servers use the same config, only difference is name/port and amount of players.

It looks to me when you go beyond the 18 players, every server gets crashing/hanging issues.

Ever since the serevr side patch my server has been running great. The only time it goes down is so I can parse the log files for stats.

Win2000 running a 22 person server.

Could it be faulty hardware like memory or something? Nothing like a server running all the time using memory up and always running in the CPU for something to show faulty hardware.

My guess would be to check the memory first.

It is not the memory
out server is a Jolt Server and any other game is ok. we have a 14 player and a 20 player both same config just diffrent ports and only the 20 player crashes :frowning: on our old linux server our 20 player stopped crashing after the server patcg came out, but on windows it is very ummm unstable :frowning: is there a new patch in the pipeline that might fix this problem or should we go back to linux?

the servers in sig --unlike the jolt.co.uk servers which run on different machines and i dont control-- run on a jolt uber server (non-lite), 2x20 players. i quit them last night to update config - for the campaign server it was the first time it’d gone down since the patch came out officially, the other stopwatch one had been down once, again to update cfg (although the rtcw [/Q3?] rcon bug had started to appear on the campaign server).

at one point previously both servers got flaky one day, checked task mgr and was low on virtual memory. i deleted a load of crap put on the C: drive and emptied the recycle bin and all was ok. i dont think you’re meant to put files on C:, use D:.

another thing to note when running multiple servers off the one ET install is youre supposed to set e.g.
+set fs_homepath 27960
in the .bat or shortcut or whatever. replace “27960” with whatever you like, aslong as each running server has a different one - i thought using the port numbers convenient. PB will spam a lot at first, until it downloads itself. there’s a note about fs_homepath in PB’s support faq

well i have done all that already, i think there is a problem with the game. after setting the server to 18 player and 15 it is fine no crashes at all and my servers are always full.

The server aint a problem here also, it did run a Global Operations server for more then a year and GO is a real cpu hog, it did use 80-90% of our cpu power (pentium4 2.4Ghz and 1 Gig Ram).

When our server(s) is set below 20 players it doesnt crash at all, or maybe once a week.

I’m running a 26 player max server (4 reserved slots) on a dual 2 Ghz xeon box with 1 gig of ram. The OS is Red Hat 7.3 (old version for reasons I won’t get into here). When the server is full (all the time except for when it crashes) it sucks up about 45% cpu time and not enough ram for me to worry about. Usually it runs for about 24 hours and then the process just hangs with no errors or anything. Checking the logs just shows me the last person that was killed and how. No error msgs of any sort. It has crashed up to 3 or 4 times in one 24 hour period though. Has anyone come up with a conclusion of how to fix this without limiting the # of max players so low? Any help is greatly appreciated.

** edit **
I am not running custom zonemeg and hunkmeg settings. They are the default that the server runs at.

Thanks,
Iron
