Server command question...XP points

(squadjot) #1

Hey…i wanna do some testing… and i want to test something with akimbo…so i need to host a server for my self only…and then i need the XP fast… whats the command??

thnx in advance!

Why does everybody insist on calling them Akimbo pistols? surely if they were akimbo you wouldn’t be able to hit a barn door with them:-

“Akimbo”

adj.
Placed in such a way as to have the hands on the hips and the elbows bowed outward: children standing with arms akimbo.
Being in a bent, bowed, or arched position: “There he remained, dead to the world, limbs akimbo, until we left (Alex Shoumatoff).

but as for your question I’ve seen the answer in one of these posts and after starting your map in the dev mode you can turn cheats on and then there is a command to give skills

(squadjot) #3

akimbo…well…arent that the name for them in the game…or “dual wield” pistols as some call them…well…i dont see what it has to do with my question…and i dont wanna start up in dev mode…i know it can be done otherwise…

please only reply to this if u can help me answer my question

(BondyBoy007) #4

Yes I prefer Duel - that sounds about right

“please only reply to this if u can help me answer my question”
but I did answer your question and you rejected it because you don’t want to start up in dev mode - if you had specified this in your question in the first place. . . .

(Ifurita) #5

/devmap radar
/give skills (probably have to do this a couple of times)

(weasel) #6

Just “/give skill”. You can also use “/give skill n”, where n is a number from 0-6, to give yourself XP in only a certain skill. I don’t remember which numbers correspond to which skills.

(squadjot) #7

thnx all…i will try this…

(BondyBoy007) #8

So can you do it without starting it up in dev mode as you wanted?

To answer your question…

Trivia time!

By pure coincidence, there is an English “akimbo”, which is the one meaning “with hands on the hips yada yada”. This version of akimbo likely derives from Old Norse. This is not the droid you’re looking for.

In his book Hong Kong Action Cinema, Bey Logan offers a brief etymology of akimbo in the movie/gaming context. The word is Japanese, and was used in traditional samurai texts to describe a particular class of samurai that wielded two swords, one in each hand. Its current usage in English was popularized by fans of John Woo, who of course popularized the dual-wielding of handguns in action movies. As of late it has entered the gaming lexicon, and has come to mean simply “to wield two weapons (of any type), one in each hand”.

So yes, “akimbo” is a perfectly valid word to use here.

So SD are to blame then

interesting bit of trivia there Kaga

(Pirate_X) #12

No, actually it looks as if Japan is to blame, or possibly Norway

(BondyBoy007) #13

Let’s blame the Japanese shall we, they’re used to taking the blame and not feeling any remorse about it

jezus christ, u guys are beginning 2 scare me…

Holy shit, u got an army of dictionarys behind yazz… :weird:

Why the fuck do u ppl look at grammar, if its not readable okay…

But common “i prefer the word dual” , “i prefer the word akimbo”

:disgust:

(BondyBoy007) #15

Wat tha hell r u on about ETPlayer?

(ETplayer) #16

about ppl who LOOK AT THE grammar of other people, if someone misses a T in a word the FUCKER takes out the big dictionary to say HEY im right ur wrong…

Same for dual wield pistols, akimbo

IF u can understand it, DONT BITCH ABOUT IT.

(Belisarius) #17

I completely disagree, but that’s another story. No point in nit-picking either.

There’s a Dilbert sketch (can’t bother to find it online now), where Dogbert has a plan of deliberately using bad grammar and spelling, using the logic explained by ETplayer above that bad grammar will get adopted as normal, until people will only communicate by pointing and grunting.

I don’t feel like point and grunt.

OH, btw - you don’t have a job, do you? If so, do you tell your boss the same when he bitches about horrible spelling in the company documents?

/spelling nazi … and English isn’t even my language…so I’ll probably regret this :moo:

(BondyBoy007) #18

about ppl who LOOK AT THE grammar of other people, if someone misses a T in a word the FUCKER takes out the big dictionary to say HEY im right ur wrong…

Same for dual wield pistols, akimbo

IF u can understand it, DONT BITCH ABOUT IT.[/quote]

Hey I wasn’t bitching, the only person I see bitching about something is you
