Hey guys I was trying to set up a server. I got most of it to work. I cant seem to see it on the ET server list thought. I have set it to dedicated internet. I also have opened up the right ports on my router.
ANY help would be great. oh yea when I see my server on the lan list it has this next to it. [UDP] what is UDP?
Server behind net/gear rt314 router
UDP is basically a protocal or method of information traffic.
For the RT 314:
Telnet to your box.
Start out with SVA server setup (option 15)
Type in the port number you want to use, 27960 and assign it a destination IP: 192.168.xx.yyy. HIt return all the way thorough and make sure it saves to ROM.
NExt you want to set up a filter which is
“Filter Set Configuration” (option 21). Select a blank slot, and give it a name, hit return through until you get to the next screen. This is the important step. Select #1. You ahve to specify, one port at a time, what you want to open and where you want it to go.
Filter type=TCP/IP or generic ( I Went with TCP/IP)
Active = yes <-Important!!!
IP Proticol=is where you specify TCP or UDP.
IP Source route=yes
Destination address is pretty self explainatory. For the next section, source, I left them all the addresses as zeros: 0.0.0.0. IF you have a hard time, enter your network mask for those settings.
Hit enter through. That should work for you. But do note, for every port you need to open that is related to Wolf, you need to go back to the Filter Rules summary screen and go through that last step for each port. For example if you want to open the port so gamespy can find you ( I don’t know the port off the top of my head…) you need to set up another rule/filter.
When you are all done, you have to reset the router, just give it a roboot command from the menu.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I was wondering on this section…
“Destination address is pretty self explainatory” LOL ok is that my lan ip for my server. (IE 192.168.x.x) or is that my wan ip?
couple of things, you can find the internal address for your server by running ipconfig. next, your router will handle your external ip address and this is the address that all people need to use when connecting over the internet.
i cant comment on f_jacks comments cos I dont know your router, but you need to look for “port forwarding” and forward UDP ports 27960-27963 which are the typicaly ET server ports to the internal ip address of your server. forwarding 0.0.0.0 would seem to imply that it will forward ALL traffic to your wolf server and therefore would not protect your PC properly from intruders
looks like this, assuming that your router is on ip 10.10.10.10 and your server is on 192.168.2.1…
user on the net uses browser and sees 10.10.10.10

your router (on 10.10.10.10)
(rules to forward UDP 27960-27963 etc to 192.168.2.1)

your server on 192.168.2.1 which I know (cos I run some) that if its dedicated needs to have the command NET_IP 0.0.0.0 set, do not use NET_IP 192.168.2.1

Would I follow these direction the same way if I was using a Netgear RP614 router? I have the same problem with not being able to see it in the browse list, but can connect via connecting directly to the IP.
