Seriously, Splash Damage.... SERIOUSLY! (Don't be a let down)

(General Techniq) #1

Two things, Splash Damage…

One. Why is the “Advanced” setting in “Freeplay” still capped at 8 total human players in one game?

I really miss being able to speak to everyone on my team without having to deal with the hassle of fireteam invites (which many players ignore), in a full game of human players (8v8), with friendly fire on, with bots being able to fill in empty spots until more players come (8 humans VS 8 humans).
YOU SAID THE CAP WAS ONLY TEMPORARY!! YOU SAID THAT! I REMEMBER YOU SAYING IT!

Two. No new news on the DLC? Really?

We are halfway through this month. Even a hollow reminder, that DLC is on the way, would be welcomed/sufficient, no?

Splash Damage. Don’t be a let down.
Many of us have seen behavior like this from developers many times in the past. We are well aware of what it can mean for us. Don’t be a let down, Splash Damage.

–I’m sure that you guys aren’t thinking of waiting until the second half of June, the promised month for DLC arrival, just to tell us that you’re pushing back the release date. I really am sure…
–I’m sure that you guys aren’t thinking of leaving the Freeplay multiplayer in it’s currently restricted state (altered away from the launch day settings) PERMANENTLY. I really am sure…

Don’t be a let down.

They say that crappy crap comes in threes…
–Zipper Interactive
–Kaos Studios
–*****************

…For a while now, I’ve been wondering what would be number three on this list of crappy crap for 2011.
SPLASH DAMAGE.
Don’t.
Be.
A.
Let down… please

Advanced Setting was my favorite at launch, and very challenging. I now play Big Team. You can play Private Big Team with Friendly Fire on! We did the other night. The rest of your post is out of our hands. You just have to wait like the rest of us. This company has endured a lot: Cyber Attacks, Bizarre Reviews, Negative Backlash, A Split PC Community, and Initial Lag particularly on Xbox. But, I say hang in there, brother. I know that may not be the popular thing people want to hear, but Patience is a virtue. Also, I wouldn’t worry about those other companies closing in relation to Brink. Much different Publisher. Bethesda games are focused on a more fantasy and RPG niche unlike those other Publishers that you listed. Those other companies (kaos studios) are trying too hard to go toe to toe against MW which is unrealistic expectations. Its like trying to create the next Harry Potter.

Regarding the release date of the new dlc, at this point I rather have it delayed if it means it will come with a good technical and balance update, than being rushed just on its own.

I am a regular player, enjoying the game a lot as it is, but the game also performs very well on my nVidia based pc. But if you think about it, this first dlc pack (and only this one) will be last big chance of regaining popularity with the wider audience. When people see the news of the new free DLC the will probably think ‘hmm I haven’t played Brink for a while, I might as well check it out’. Now, if the game has still a lot of technical problems for them (Ati user for example), I think no matter how good the new content is they will forget about the game forever.

From what I can tell by looking at the game’s community (forums, etc) the number of players currently playing are mostly the big fans of the game, the other people that own the game but do not play it, don’t play because they like it but can’t do it properly (technical issues which hopefully can be resolved) or don’t play because they don’t like the gameplay, something that can be also fixed for some people by tweaking and balancing the game (weapons, spawn camping, etc.) [I know of a friend that is on the fence about the game because he sees the shotguns and grenade launchers as useless] All of this which I am hoping will come with the new dlc (for the pc).

The game suffered from being rushed, and even though they don’t have all the time in the world now, I hope the next update/dlc is not rushed.

Can you be a bit more precise on what exactly do you mean “bizarre” reviews? I for one carefully read three and more reviews on this game before buying (IGN, GameSpot, and AtomicGamer <- is that the right name?). I’d say the general scores critic reviewers give are a bit on the harsh side, but the pros and cons of Brink listed in those mainstream reviews are mostly true. I am one of those didn’t pay attention to this game until very recently, and after reading those reviews I formed no delusion or hype of stepping into a game that more than it actually is.

As much as I want to play with more people (PC user here), I have to admit the current population is a somewhat accurate indicator of how good the game is in its current state. We can all be fanboish and hand-holding but the hard truth is unless the developers fix/change this game’s bugs/shortcomings/design flaws in the upcoming updates, you won’t be likely to see a healthy trend of increasing player population.

That’s all true. They better not miss their chance “Splash” because most gamers never gives a second chance and some don’t even give one chance so if they don’t give us a damn patch soon with many things that have been suggested here, including my thread and that DLC then we will prolly never see any increase of players online until maybe the games goes -50% on Steam because only die hard fans like us on the forum will keep playing. Too much experienced player is also bad in a way because a new player will feel way too bad against them and rage quit really fast if there is no one close to his level.

I’m scared that they do like ETQW. Splash Damage can make the best games ever but they’re really not known for their follow-up “community support, patches and new content” so their awesome games die very quickly and only gets played by a small group of hardcore players -_-

Absolutely true. But this still doesn’t call for silence on the matter.

Simple announcements with either approximations, confirmed dates, or at least a “final stages” comment keeps the screaming masses at bay…to a degree.

I’m starting to lose enthusiasm with turning on my xbox every day JUST to see a Brink DLC announcement to no avail.

(dazman76) #7

A blog story or two containing map previews etc., might have been nice  It really is silence central at the moment - but I guess that’s the way you have to roll when you sign with someone like Bethesda “Zero Feedback” Software. I may just be blinded by nostalgia, but I’m sure the ET:QW era was more open than this. I’d like the old SD back please!

(badman) #8

The DLC is still coming. The moment we have a date we’re 110% sure won’t change, we’ll throw it at the internet. There are many factors and moving parts involved, and we’re wanting to stay as far away from “rolling” release dates as possible.

Thanks Bad!

Thank you badman.

Cheers bad.

This screaming mass is kept at bay for the time being.

It’s a mass of disappointed players that hoping for massive changes in that DLC. Truth is that DLC probably will be as any other DLC : some balance fixes, new content and that’s it ( i do hope for **** loads of new challenges)

I wait as well, not disappointed but in hope that game will still have some legs.

BTW Badman : Any chance for other payable DLC’s eg. Doom Pack or SpecOps ?

(tokamak) #14

Still baffles me why people are so excited about the DLC.

(badman) #15

Not currently aware of any plans to make the preorder content available as DLC, no.

(Shinigami) #16

OMG, badman that is all i ask for. A simple “not aware of any plans” is enough for me to know what is going on. Now can you please give a similar reply on the MATCHMAKING topic:

“Not currently aware of any plans to address matchmaking”

or

“We are looking into it”

Either one is good for me. Being kept in the shadows is what sucks.

(Cep) #17

And I sincerely hope they do not, or ill never be pre-ordering again that’s for sure.

(Galaxy) #18

Personally I’m not as expectant for the new dlc per se as I am for balance tweaks, plus technical fixes that hopefully will bring many other players into the game, that is why I think many people are ‘excited’ about this dlc release because it might be like a second launch for the game. Then I really want to see the game expanded through dlc, but that is something that will only come if there is a large enough player base.

(DarkangelUK) #19

I sincerely hope people aren’t setting themselves up to be disappointed here. No where ever has it been said that the DLC will include anything beyond the new maps and additional class abilities etc. I will have no sympathy for those shouting about being ‘let down’ because there weren’t any balance tweaks and bug fixes included with it. Expect what SD has already stated and nothing more.
