Semi-OT: Need Help with my new comp to run ET

(EvilBaga) #1

I have a Budget machine to tide me over for a few months.
Its an AMD Sempron 2800+ (1.6 Ghz) with On-Board 64MB V-RAM and 512MB RAM. Running Windows XP

Thing is when I run ET with it, I get an artifact over the whole screen… kind of like a transparent curtain that makes it hard to see, playing RTCW I noticed that this gets particularly bad near a In-Game Light Source.

I dont think this machine is too weak to run ET. But how do I fix it?

So you’re running ET on an integrated video chipset (aka not an real AGP or PCI-e video card)?

Yup. Is that the problem?

Shared video ram eh ?

I would suggest getting new drivers and not to expect great performance even at that point.
I was able to get a DELL 8MB 82801e onboard(700mhzComp) on the lowest settings, to load and play the game at 6 FPS…with no clout, but with rigged drivers.
-So you’re machine is not too weak…lol.

I would recommend getting an AGP or PCI-e card…seems the prices are falling lately.

Yeah, almost everything is better then integrated, or the gfx card has to be older than 6 years… Just mkae some money and get a GFX card, maybe even an older one which you buy from some1 else. Geforce 2 MX400 was fine for me in the past, maybe something better (Geforce FX series) would be nice to play the game on fast and even for some newer games to play it on lowest settings… Then you can save soma money for ET:QW and a new gfx for that, 6600GT or something. I wouldn’t choose for ATI since its not as good in opengl as nvidia is. ET uses openGL, ATI runs it, but then a mainstream ATI would perform as a budget nvidia card in my opinion in ET.

afaik, artifacts can be caused by running game with different settings than desktop, if desktop runs 32 bit and game is set at 16 bit, try set desktop to 16 bit as well.
