sdkLauncher error

(iwound) #1

ive just reinstalled win 7 due to virus attacks.
only issue i have is sdklauncher refuses to launch any editors just etqw.

cant remember if i need to install any other files for it. google is empty due to old site down. anyone had this issue in the past and remember the solution.

ive tried reinstalling the sdk and deleting old settings.

im getting an error saying unable to load ‘tools/ …’ dynamic library
and then
unknown command editworld.

save your settings, delete etqw and sdk. install etqw, apply patch, install sdk to seperate folder, set correct paths to etqw and run. should work this way.

i didnt have to install any other programs or utilities. i use win7 ultimate 64bit.

you also might wanna check your user folder if you didnt format your system volume.

Works fine with windows7 64 bit here as well. I copied from my old xp install, can’t rememeber doing anything special to make it work.

i should of said i already had it working on win 7 when i upgraded but i had to do a fresh install then this happens. i cant reinstall qw but i had it in 2 locations for backup and neither work. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sdk aswell.

(Scrupus) #5

make sure you set the paths and stuff in sdk before launching, unless you did already.

(iwound) #6

yep thats done.
in the console it says found 24 dynamic libaries but then fails to load some of them noteable the tools.

maybe file access issue, ive had this with win 7 before.

Got nothing useful to add, just saying that you have to get this working again or I’ll get you killed for teasing us with screenshots of a non-existing map. fyi

(iwound) #8

shut it or i’ll tease you some more. i can still devmap .

heres the errors. it trys to read the files from the wrong directory. its missing the /base/ before /tools ie

…1.5/base/tools/editors

but if i copy them to there nothing. cant figure why its missing that. also if i run the etqw editor version without the launcher i get “couldn’t load fs.chk” presumably because i need to run it through the launcher. hopefully i’ll be able to fully reinstall later but im not hopeful.

[]V[], you can delete the folder “tools” inside your map dir and when you load SDK again, it will create a default “tools” folder. You will not lost your work by deleting this folder.

If you feel not safe to delete it, just move it to another place to simulate deletion.

hmm strange - I just checked on my own install and it tells the same paths as you see when loading, ie. without the base directory. But the tools are indeed under base, and they all load ok.

I get the same error as you when loading the editor directly (fs.chk), so I guess SDKLauncher is required to do some funky stuff before loading both them and the libs. Wish I could figure out how to load that x64 version fex…

So sorry but this is strange. I have my SDK installed in a seperate directory btw, not inside the retail game. Maybe that makes a difference, dunno.

Well if you can’t get it working, send me the source and include the recorded keyboard+mouse macros to finish it

(Scrupus) #11

btw, you said etqw engine itself was starting ok - have you tried to launch the tools directly from the console there? should work to just write “editworld”, “editathmos” etc from there. Also check if sdklauncher load the sdk engine and not the retail one.

(iwound) #12

Tried that Don but no luck. And those tools dirs are everywhere. It won’t start at all even a fresh mod dir.

ta Scrup. it seems it just refuses to load them libraries.

afaik it loads the editor executable from within the same dir. And no way to change that. i dont think the game exe trys to install the libraries so same as "unknown command editworld."

ive tried installing sdk in different dir as well. but no go.
hopefully a fresh install tomorrow will fix it. my qw folder has been on here since i bought it and survived loads of windows installs.

Help me OB1 or its more gardening for me. :frowning:

(iwound) #13

SUCCESS - thanks kill the re-install worked. It seems QW updated a file in the vis c++ 2005 redistributable, which was already installed. meh!

pity i wasn’t able to re-install earlier (no dvd drive) and not panic.

(Donnovan) #14

Nice!!! :):):):):):):)

But now i believe its better to delay my Win 7 upgrade a bit more!

(SebaSOFT) #15

Don, I’ve upgraded (actually fresh install) to Win7 and it worked flawlessly. Maybe the Corporate edition comes with the 2005 redis installed

your welcome  one day more and i would have quoted myself again to force you to try my method cause i KNOW it works this way…

map on, have fun
