Have you ever thought about the next game from Splash Damage?
For this, they need really good arguments to get their trust back from the old ET and ETQW fans.
Personally I won’t buy it, if it isn’t similar to one of the old games, there won’t be a beta or demo and if it isn’t shown on a PC system.
SD will need good arguments...
The old ET/ETQW fans are small fish compared to the rather large console crowd they’ll need to win the hearts of. I hate to play the same old record, but it’s not only SD that have a lesson to learn from this, as we know it wasn’t SD’s choice to hold back on a beta and demo.

Just as a preface I’m not trolling.
Can you please tell me what it is about Brink (other than things that easily can be patched) that dissapointed you?

brink is like a tetraplegic monkey. Dr kevorkian cure needed. I will never ever buy any game withou playng demo. No beta/demo is a cheat. Hiding bad product to make massive solds.
Sorry, I think Bink is better than ETQW. The maps are truer to W:ET. The controls/weaponbanks are not of course. The class balance is more like RTCW which is optimal to me.
The most disappointing thing to me is the obvious bugs that made it into the retail versions. ie. refuel sound, glyphcache bug, operative teabag bug, etc. Honestly, the damage bug in ETQW was a major bug that few noticed and wasn’t fixed until at least the 1.2 patch but maybe 1.4. That’s the difference. Bugs that 90% of the players notice and bugs that get get missed by most people.
Sadly, I don’t expect SD’s next game to be like RTCW/W:ET/ETQW. The market just isn’t there. The average person just can’t handle it. This makes me sad on multiple levels.
That said, if SD wants to be a major studio they need to release a more polished game. However I still have faith that SD supports their games. They haven’t let me down in this department yet.

That in itself is a dissapointment. Something that can be easily patched but has not.
And really, aside from all the general complaints people have, most of which are completely reasonable, the one I just cannot tolerate is the lack of a matchmaking system. I am seriously pissed at the fact that for the whole month that I have had Brink I have played less than ten matches full with players. And it has nothing to do with lack of players. It all falls on lack of lobby system. And I for one am NOT going to do that whole thing people are doing of adding friends to play matches. I already did that when the game first came out. And guess what? Out of the 20+ people I originally added, not a single one plays brink anymore. So from the looks of it, I would have to keep adding and deleting players for the sake of online multiplayer.
I think it is complete and utter BS that i as a gamer an subjected to this. This game doesnt really have a single player campaign. Its all about multiplayer, and its broken. Shame on you SD.
If they support the game then there is no reason why they will need to win back people.
Yes, Wolf:ET was full of static spawns, linear objectives and separate levels per map stage. OH WAI-
It is really sad to read some opinions here. I think SD hit the taste of those, which is even more sad.
I doubt SD is contend with any of this either. Maybe it’s too early to comment on this… well maybe ‘fiasco’ is putting it too harsh, but there’s no way you can call this a success. I think the wounds are still too fresh and this is still supposed to be the window in which the game needs to sell.
I would definitely be interested in their take on it later on though.
lol
People just need to be patient its a problem with people today, everyone wants everything NOW RIGHT NOW. SD have a good track record in supporting their games. They have already released an update which fixed the server broswer and we know more updates are on the way.
The best thing to do is be constructive and give good feedback so SD can address the issues.
What I think needs improving.
- admin tools for servers worked on so we can have admin levels and not just the rcon. (Pain adminining servers at the moment.
- Pause and demo recording. (Vital for compeition)
- Objective progress showing on hud for spectators (Shoutcasting)
- first person spectating (Shoutcasting & Admining servers)
Not really. ETQW got very little support, simply because it didn’t need that much support after it got released. Things would be pretty dire if we have to expect a similar amount of support for Brink.
With Brink, Splash Damage has proved to me they have the guts to create games that are about innovation, fun, teamwork, and originality that pushes the boundaries of FPS and bucks negative trends in most other shooters. I can’t wait for more games from these guys!
Three very, very minor patches. A few glitches fixed, VOIP added, a couple of balances fixes out of which the shotgun nerf and the MCP repair the biggest ones, last one was the biggest with turret notifications, voiced tooltips and coloured mines.
That’s it. Then on came the SDK and the game was done. Brink needs much, much more than that before the game is satisfying.
If they want to get a lot of console fan, then they just have to do randumb trailer running linkin park song.
The others are old PC fans who moved to console, or who are still playing on PC.

SD will freely admit they wanted more demo’s and beta testing but it’s not entirely their fault. They made a very good new IP and it is a success in most respects. If Bethesda would stop sucking about it they could do much more with BRINK. It’s not like they don’t want to, I know for a fact that they DO play this game themselves because I play with one or two of them. “We’er making the games we want to play.” there’s truth in that statement.
Fact - there are more pc gamers than anyone other format.
Fact - Splash Damage cannot make a game that doesn’t suck.
Fact - ID need to bring nerve back together and make RTCW2 and just copy the physics from RTCW.
End of discussion.
