SD pulled off something first if...

They could balance this game in the first try.

Blizzard balance starcraft’s asymmetrical races in the first try as I don’t see a lot of patches. This is a RTS game

For non RTS games, if this game is patchless except for new levels, then SD pulled off balancing asymmetrical teams for the first try.

Correct me if someone else has made team games with asymmetrical sides that was already balanced on the first try.

I know WoW failed at that because their first few patches was for balancing issues and they had to remove the Dwarven Mage.

I think it will balance out alright. At least, that’s why the game was delayed. I only hope they didn’t use their sweet time on Belgian beverages again. (Inside joke)

For example, look at their previoous game, W:ET. It had about 4 patches without one of which I’m aware that fundamental gameplay was changed.

A lot of moaning did happen about the medic class though, as people claim they are harder to kill. This holds a certain truth, though this was mostly due to most medic’s habit of taking shelter, healing up and starting shooting again without ever caring about injured team mates. So, whilst some mods tried to fix this, there was never consus other than the fact that those players were just abondoning teamplay. So it is more of an issue with the players than the game.
And for these reasons, I think are sure qualified to balance it right.

Well I don’t see any huge differences between 2.60b and 2.55. Tho, might be cause I don’t play much 2.60b =p Not much 2.55 either, but still more. Don’t ask why, cool people i’ve known for my entire fps life are playing it too =)

A lot of bugs were fixed in 2.60 though.

Balancing a game for all game types and different number of players sounds near impossible to me, especially considering how gameplay evolves over time (should they balance it for new players or experienced?).

The key to balancing without releasing patches is called options, though the default settings will still have to be “good enough” for the random pub server.

(And for the record: several of the 22 StarCraft patches have tweaked balance.)

As long as we offend and enrage everyone equally, we’ll have done our job.

Can’t do better than that.

Haha, the truth is astounding.

Personally with other gaming developers their is always the danger they make dumb decisions. I’m not worried at all with SD their reputation proceeds them.

They just forgot one thing, rock beats scissors.

But paper beats rock.

We have a conundrum.

But scissors beats paper and so the circle of endless conflict goes on.

Rock paper scissors is sooo 2006

There have been slight balance tweaks for Starcraft just like any other multiplayer game
I don’t think it’s possible to have a multiplayer game without balance tweaks, since even a large-scale beta can’t reveal all the problems
