Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Texture & Model Criticism

Previous model - BT-5 Texture & Model Criticism
This is the next model that i have been working on for texture purpouse. And i would be more then happy if any suggsestions and ideas would be saied about this.

This is the German Sd.Kfz. 234/2 armored car.
Images with detailed information

GTK Images for better visual (sorry that they are a bit blurry, had to lighten them up)

General info
Type - Armored car
Place of origin - Germany
Crew - 4
Speed - 85 km/h
Wheels - 8 (older versions had 6)
Engine - 155hp 8-cylinder

These vehicles were most effective in Poland and France but they were also used in Africa and Russian front

I hope the images are not too dark.
Like always any criticism is more then welcome.

bump map for that green texture is needed.
also, randomly rotate texture on wheels, so they aren’t in same position all the time.

(shagileo) #3

oh-god; I can see myself sitting right there in the driver’s seat putting those 85 km/h to a test :stroggtapir:

Is the cannon hollow inside?

Great model, yet again !

(Pegazus) #4

@Indy
I did bump map on it yesterday, the results were not pleasing. Instead i used the unsharp tool to bring out a low “bump” effect that looks good on it. I think so. I can do the bump again later and show you how it would look.
Thanks for the wheel info, never thought of that.

@Shag
Hi hi, it’s yet another fast vehicle, but when you do those 85 km/h you will run out of petrol fast.
Yes it is. If i think right what you mean.
Thanks

The photographic reference for the wheels makes the body textures look cartoony. You should simplify the rims of the wheels so that they are not so realistic and do not have lighting in them. Right now, your shadow side of your wheels will be rotating around when you escort it.

Add some wear and grime around the plates and paint in some slight shadows in the corners where the fenders meet up with the rest of the body.

actually if it is a 2cm machinecannon(*) then its too thick. otherwise i like it…
and yeah, if u did this whole thing for texturing it up then it still needs a lots of work.

(judging by eye looks something between a 5 and a 7,5cm one on your model) (s is scratching out with a center line)

*:i deliberately using wrong term, its correctly indeed autocannon in english but i like this better so translating it directly

toolate necroedit: i forgot to tell, the shape is more than ok, its lowpolyness is very much to my liking

(Nail) #7

afaik, the 234/2 had a 5 cm KwK 39 L/60, the 234/1 had the 2 cm KwK 30 L/55

either way, nice model

a good pic here

(Pegazus) #8

Thanks for the advice guys.

Thx nail and aaa3 for pointing out, there was alot of info about those vehicles and it was easy to get confused about the info.

@Diego
Yes, i noticed that too. Will play around with it.

I will show some progress soon

It is important that your pink wedding dress is professionally cleaned before storing, and that you shoose a skilled company which has experience in storing cheap wedding dress. if the dress: http://www.royalmedresses.com has been stained, your chosen cleaner should offer specific advice. To ensure the best possible results, give the dry cleaners all labels and care insructions that came with the dresses for weddings.

Need some contrast on that main olive colour. Need some details on the main area because its not one single sheet of metal. It a whole bunch so you gotta add ‘seams’ where the metal ends and another begins. Also adding in grunge and other details like bolts and what-not will help make sure its not so boring.

(Pegazus) #11

I agree with everything you say Alpha Red.
That is why i remade the whole texture (it was just too ugly). I decided to make it african, because detail will stand out more then. Hopefully i can show some results soon.

(S14Y3R) #12

Yeah Pegger, Gotta fire up something around the tires(mud splash, etc…) for some kind of effect on top of mixing up the rotation on the wheels.

-the overall tank should be fast for the bunnyhoppers!

But-
-F-uckyou hoppers, learn to strafejump!

But Yeah, Test your vehicle(s) on comp settings, not everyone is taking a break from QW/Crisis to play some kickass rounds of updated ET mods!

(Pegazus) #13

@S14Y3R
You can’t drive around with this vehicle, since it’s not made for a mod. Though it will be escortable
I think if i could get in contact with East Front mod it would be possible to drive around with it.

Here are some new images from the African themed texture.
Hopefully it is better then the last one

“All images are from ingame and not tweaked to make it better looking”

I looked alot for reference images and to see how other textures have been made to stand out better and this is the result.
Any advice, tips or suggsestions again?

Also, if anyone is interested I would release the model.

[Notice: The wheel texture is not mine credit goes for Valve]

(shagileo) #14

I like this version better
But won’t there be a little problem when escorting on terrain? I mean when it goes on some kind of hill, won’t the back wheels disappear in the ground when the front wheels go up the hill?
But great job nevertheless

(Pegazus) #15

Hmm, i don’t think so, unless the hill is very steep. Other then that, it should act like the opel blitz being escorted.

Thanks

(Avoc) #16

I think the texture could be a bit more “rough”.

If you want, I can run it through photoshop and do some minor tweaks to it.

(Pegazus) #17

Sure, why not.
I’l hand you the picture later, got to go for now.

(Pegazus) #18

Sorry for double post

Here you go Avoc
Texture - http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/3571/textureafrica.jpg
UV Map - http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/372/uvmap.jpg

Texture size 2048x2048
I hope you can work with it  & don’t forget to tell me what you did.

(Diego) #19

I think you can afford to put a few more extra polys in it. This texture does look better. But for some reason, it looks a little luminescent in this environment. I think you should paint some shadows in the interior of the wheel fenders. And they also need some more detail on top of them. Just needs more contrast in the image overall. If your using photoshop, the beveling and dropshadow layer filters work wonders.

(Avoc) #20

Would have been great if I could have gotten the .md3 aswell, so that I could see how my changes look like before I send you the texture back. But I will see what I can do =)
