SD forgot their roots
I want to hear words to the effect of why. Why this stuff was “downgraded”, why was stuff that is obviously damn cool missing?

Surely the consoles can handle it; I don’t see anything in Brink that is /that/ in depth or cutting edge that these kinds of sacrafices had to be made…
Yeah I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during the meeting where that decision was made.

I do think the Xbox and PS3 could handle the upgraded videos graphics. Gears 3 was on par with those kind of graphics, giving it that gritty war like feel.

I doubt we’ll ever hear a reason why the change was made. But i’d love to know.

I hope you’re being sarcastic about the “gritty, war like feel.” Xbox graphics are dated…

I like the aesthetic of brink because it is unique and doesn’t strive for the gritty, war like feel of every other fps.
design decisions for the console, obviously
if you can’t see that then you are either a console player, or never played previous games made by SD
Exactly! WHen this game was first announced on G4 they said it was a console development and I was shocked that SD went to the dark side. And RTCW/ET were nothing like RTCW/ET on the PC. Not even close to the same game…well I guess it was just ET.

2000 64 man servers for RTCW/ET plus Unlimited user maps
2011 16 payer max servers for Brink/COD 8 maps, smaller than past. etc. BFBC2 is what 24?

Not saying more is always better…sometimes it is not, but we have gone so far backwards in 11 years, we can’t even get a solid server browser in FPS games. Obviously the Devs never played games with good browsers or they are too lazy to make it proper.

lol

I like the hightened ambient lighting, lack of over emphasized ray traced shadows, and lack of OSA/Bloom/other prostprocessing. Also, the excessive artillery like explosions for grenades, and screaming sounds while taking damage are obnoxious and occlude the gameplay to a severe extent.

/discussion.
Dear Splash Damage,
it is obvious that you made a console port for the PC.
As a player friend said, Brink feels very often like an autopilot see the plant objective where you can’t move while you arm.
My next point is the adaption for noobs. You threw almost all things out which required real skill.
I take an example of a competitve game now. It is urgent to time your attacks at the right time in wars. So you have to look at the time and think about the necessity of respawning. So why is the respawn timer missing and why the hell is there no respawn function in Brink? I really don’t get it.
I don’t even talk about the bugs which exist at the moment these need their time to get fixed, however the game is not balanced at all. Have you ever tried to hack an objective in a 5on5?

If there was no sign on Brink which says it is from Splash Damage I would think it came from a brand new developer in the branch, but not from Splash Damage itself!

Splash Damage you forgot your roots, all the good things which made you so popular!

In my opinion you are now in the same category like Crytek. Those who let all the PC players down with their console port.
It is really sad that the last developer who stood for extraordinary gameplay, diversity of possibilities you could do while playing and a good competitive base made the worst thing happen for all the ET and ETQW fans.
We don’t expect the same games once again, but we expect a proper PC game in the spirit of the best games you ever made.

Very disappointing that the last developer changed the direction now. :frowning: :frowning: :(
I don’t think it’s a console port. On the other hand, the abilities all being functional with the F key is a bit annoying. Not being able to move, while arming, and only being able to plant one bomb/hackbox on the objective is annoying.
