Yes! You have finally turned from the dark side, welcome to the good guy’s team. You can still wear the cool black cloak if you want.

Please let us know how the new card performs as compared to the old. Also, what type of ATI card was it and how much was the nVidia? (Looking to upgrade so I’d like some price comparisons.)

EDIT: Just saw the other thread, forget the first part of the question:

Except there is no ATI 9670.

FWIW my HD 4870 runs the game at 1920 x 1080, everything turned up except AA. 60 FPS constant. Dunno why some people are having so many issues. My card is over two years old.

Whats your CPU and ram situation?

(Crawdaddy79) #6

Core i7 920, 4 GB.

(Jimmy James) #7

I’ve also heard some people speculating that it’s more of a motherboard issue. What brand do you run?

(esomonk) #8

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L

Strange thread. I’m sure ATI will be popping a lot of indigestion tablets tonight after reading this thread. ¬_¬ It’s one thing saying it once in a post but to make a new thread regarding it… then I see you’ve spammed other forums with this same message. “look ma new sticker! look it’s so shiny!”

I could have sworn it was the ranting of a teenager, then I was shocked to see his age.

So what happens if you come across a game that doesn’t play well on your NVIDIA… it will happen.

ATI has been pretty good to me over the years. Find it strange to see them called “the dark side” here, when the damn nVidia animation plays out whenever you start up Brink, telling you that nVidia is the way it’s “meant to be played”. The problem is not ATI. The problem is with developers choosing to optimize one graphics card manufacturer over another in exchange for $$$ or for displaying their logo every time a player starts up the game.

Thing is that i played Brink in my brother Pc wich have a worst processor but have a 8800 nvidia card while i have a better processor and a ati 5770 and his computer runs the game fine around 60 fps while i run it with around 30 fps, but in every other game I get better better fps then him.

So defenitly theres a ati issue there, and yes the processor kinda helps it too, i Oc ed my processor and have around + 10 fps now. But still the main issue is that the atis on brink perform a lot worst then a nvidia card in general.

got the card so will test tonight.

yeah, i wandered away from the back and green side into red, didnt like it

the ati 6950 2GB was about £200 but it was one that could be flashed to a £270ish 6970 (unlocks shaders etc) and could eat up a 20% overclock.

i have just ordered the card in my sig for £345! eek! only 1.5GB ram but i have high hopes. its basically the best card they do that isnt a dual 580 (which is called a 590) expensive but my last top end card (8800gtx) still plays everything, just not at the detail i would like.

this is mainly an investment for BF3 really.

when you drop £200 and find its worse than a 5 year old card you have a right to be annoyed. i dont play anything apart from Brink so to me its like burning £200. luckily the place i bought from allowed me to get it refunded as it wasnt ‘fit for purpose’. they tested it to make sure Brink was an issue and it failed for them too.

i spammed as i was so happy i hadnt wasted £200. i will also be in a great position to positively say its an ATI issue, many of us were struggling.

i know ATI doesnt care - i saw their ‘benchamarked in crossfire and acceptable’ comment on twitter. for me they have done massive damage to Brink as a game. how many of the people who left were maybe ATI users?

<edit> btw - been using nvidia since the first geforce was released apart from 2 ATI cards. one burnt out due to a faulty fan and the last one was obviously ****e too. not a good impression is it?

i think some i7 people are ok, maybe due to the increased horsepower of the i7 range. if OCers hadnt refunded me i would have bought an i7 system.

Here is a bit of irony (I’m a big fan of irony) tomorrow my first and only forum “Infraction” expires. I was warned for a post in which I suggested that someone trade in their ATI video card for a nVidia and now there is an entire thread devoted to the subject. Good times.

ok, managed to test a couple of games last night.

max FPS isnt as high as with the ATI but the dips are considerably less. for example. i seem to average 70fps with everything maxxed out and highest quality settings/ AO etc in the nvidia control panel. i do get drops to the high 40 FPS region but thats much better than with the ATI. oddly, i find the overall image quality better. it felt like i had a new monitor, that surprised me.

the game played so much better and looked awesome. i was able to run around as light with pistol and knife and cause mayhem

because some people asked fro my findings, i guessed they might miss the reply as i have been asked in a few threads.

anyway, its definately an ATI issue. nvidia is amazing! the game looks superb and plays so much better now!

You can say that, but us ATI players really got great insights on how it is to have parkinson’s disease.
