Same IP adress

Hi, (posted this on www.enemy-territory.com aswell)

I’ve got two computers at home connected by a hub, one for me and one for my brother. The problem is, when one computer joins a server everything is fine but when the other computer joins aswell, the game disconnects for both computers…I heard you can solve the problem by using a switch/router but I don’t have one …is there anyway that I can play with my brother on the same server without using a switch/router? would appreciate some answers, take care

Its technically possible, by multi-homing one of the PC’s and using it as a router, but its going to be a PITA. With the cost of home routers, you would be better served to go out and buy a cheap one, and use it. Personally I use a D-Link DI-704 at home. Assuming you don’t want a print server the DI-604 should do you nicely, and it runs about US$50 at bestbuy.com
Also, you can probably find the same, or similar, router for cheaper if you shop around a bit.

You can’t connect to the internet through a hub unless you have public IPs for both computers, in which case you shouldn’t have a problem connecting to the same server. Are you using Microsoft ICS and connecting through one of your PCs?

The soulution when connecting from several computers with the same public IP can be found in my post in this thread.
