RtCW's name locations, or ET's grid references?

(Cyber-Knight) #1

I’m sure this topic has been discussed during the early life of ET.

I’ve played ET since test, and played RtCW religiously a year prior. ET is my primary game I play now though.

But even till now, I still can’t get grid references memorized or bare any meaning to a grid reference if it is given to me on the fly.

Do maybe some of you clanners go like “incoming at D6!”. And everyone on the team would know where D6 was?

(Demolama) #2

its no doubt everyone likes the name locations… I dont know anyone who actually looks at the grid referance and then open up their command map… to this day I still havent figured out why they took the RTCW map location functions out

(MadJack) #3

Though I voted for Name Location I have to admit grid is handy if someone calls for Incoming or Enemy in Disguise, it’ll print the grid coords and hitting G can tell me where about that happened.

(bani) #4

grid references dont include Z axis information, so you dont know if a teammate is inside the fueldump building or on top of it, or on the water tower.

name locations 4-evar!!!1!!1

(pgh) #5

Yup, locs > *.

(SCDS_reyalP) #6

Name locations > *

It only took me a few weeks of play to know all the important locations in the stock RTCW maps. Yet playing ET since the test release, the coords still don’t mean much to me.

(evilsock) #7

yup yup, it’d be a different game again if it had named locations imho *hint hint Bani

(Sick Boy) #8

Yeah location names roq :rocker2:

Because WHERE THE F*** IS E7 ???

(Kendle) #9

Give me any grid reference, on any map, and I couldn’t tell you where the fuck it is. We’ve had to come up with names for everything ourselves, but still get confused when trying to describe somewhere we’ve not had to think of a name for before. I’ve got a key bound to the Command Map but I can’t recall ever using it, certainly not in a Clan war.

(mouse) #10

yeah Kendle, like on oasis flagdefence

A - incoming at the stairs!
B - what stairs, you mean the stairs at the water tunnel or the stairs at the mg?
A - At the mg, but never mind, they got the flag

(Fusen) #11

I’ve commented on this on this forum or another but generally I’m doing fine telling the team where they are by describing the place with my own names for them … normally its quite obvious

(Mr_Tickles) #12

Ummm, I look at my Command Map… maybe it’s just the odd arrangement of keys I use which allow me the ease of using it quite regularly. I actually use all the other little bits like the player stats, the scoreboard, sprint, and walk occasionally, lean left/right, although I must admit the 0 on the number pad isn’t at the best place at the moment.

Why not include the z co-ordinate of the player? It’s already possible to have different layers to the command map, I don’t see too much of a problem

(BondyBoy007) #13

Dont suppose you could create and use name locations in your next version of ETPro bani? seeing as you like them too

All too often on comms there is confusion about locations and by the time you described where they’re coming from or going to it’s too late

(SenF|Doddsy) #14

Location, location, location… I never use the coordinates as I feel they are just not intuitive enough. I have to admit though that I do use the command map a lot. Couple that with the kill texts that come up and you can quickly tell where a threat is. As an engineer for instance you should be checking the command map to tell where all the mines are. When you see in the text or hear a landmine go off just check the command map to tell where you need to reinforce. Grid references though? nah - “C4 - HIT! - you sunk my battleship!!”

(k1ll3r) #15

bani you got some serious work to do :stuck_out_tongue:

(=DaRk=CrAzY-NuTTeR) #16

the grid refrences are handy, because for new maos not every1 else might know where the basement is, but on grid refrences one look at the CM and thats it, you know where to go

but i like names better they are better and i agree with bani, there is no z axis (yet)

but neither the less i dont give a toss where my teammates are
