RTCW 2 --> WHEN ?

(ygan) #1

When ? :???:

(Cerebrate) #2

When it’s gonna be officially announced? Hopefully within Q1 2005.

(Genesis) #3

Yea, i think it will b announced somewhere Q1 or Q2 2005…
… and the release date will probably be “in the end of 2005”…
… wich will end up Q3 2006!

Have fun with ET

(puubert) #4

Between now and the day after it’s been released.

(Computertech) #5

Is ET2 even being made at all? I know one anouncement was just a hoax. Anybody know if it is going to be made?

(Depth_Charge) #6

rtcw 2 = et 2

(Cerebrate) #7

Yeah, it’s gonna be released six months after RTCW 2 and kill it off. They’re gonna try and break the record this time.

(-FA-Undertaker) #8

RTCW2 = ET2 << bullsh*t
RTCW2 will NOT be the followup of ET. It will be a follow up for RTCW, which was a totally different style of game imo.

Doom3 engine’s data flow is too heavy… too hard for a massive MP game server to exchange and handle data on Internet. If Doom3 engine is really applied, the MP factor in RtCW2 will possibly be ruined…

Limited to 8 players? At least RtCW competition requires 6 vs 6 minimal, ET might requires 1 or 2 more to fulfille the vast battlefield area. For public servers, it demands even more. While Doom3 engine offers poor capability in player number scalability, the mentioned RtCW 2 with Doom3 engine, might be just another “cinematic single person FPS with dazzling light/shadow effects”. That is… “play through it once or twice, uninstall it and look for next so-called D3-killer or HL2-killer title”.

^^ That’s a key factor IMO. If RTCW2 is going to be built on the D3 engine and if the D3 engine can’t cope with 16 slot servers minimum, then RTCW2 is going to be a non-starter as far as MP is concerned.

Whether RTCW2 MP (if it ever happens) will be similar to ET is another thing altogether. Much as the RTCW purists may hate the thought I think it will. ET is simply a more popular game than RTCW MP ever was (being free obviously being a significant factor). Whether it’s better or not is besides the point and a matter of opinion anyway. ID/Activision can see for themselves how popular ET is, and can see for themselves how much money there is to be made from a “captive” audience (I’d guess a significant portion of the current ET player base would happily pay money for ET2). So I’d say it’s in ID/Activision’s (financial) interests to make a RTCW2 that is either largely what the ET single-player would’ve been if it’d been completed and / or is similar to current ET MP.

It wouldn’t surprise me if RTCW2 = ET2 + single-player (note: it must have a SP element for the publishers to be able to charge money for it). And how I will laugh when that day comes at all the ET-hating RTCW purists who’ve pinned their hopes on RTCW2 being the saviour of RTCW.

(blushing_bride) #11

im hoping its more like ET then RTCW but that’s only because i know it would piss off lots of people in the clan community. Reading their whine about it would keep me amused for months on end

(senator) #12

Yeah, RtCW2 similar to Et would rock, as long as they don’t try to emulate BF1942/UT or any other similar game and MP would be on wide open maps and with freely maneuverable vehicles… that would suck and destroy the gameplay big time. But I hope for the best

(Fusen) #13

I also would prefer it to be more like ET than rtcw as I’m a ET player first RTCW player second being that I only bought RTCW about 2-3 months ago and tbh I cannot stand playing RTCW compared to ET, ET just has a certain feel to it which I really enjoy compared to any other game

(Grimmy_EFG) #14

It is unlikely to “feel” like either…

(Fusen) #15

apart from you having the gay, why do you think that? \o/

(Grimmy_EFG) #16

Experience of other sequels. (Given the example RTCW to ET as the best one).

(senator) #17

Yeah, UT 2004 was certainly completely different from UT 2003 or UT

(Nail) #18

yes, I believe it has more red in it
:fiesta:

(Kendle) #19

I imagine the fact it’ll be on a different engine will pretty much guarantee that RTCW2 won’t “feel” like RTCW1 or ET, but I’d imagine the gameplay would involve similar things, like XP, Campaign mode, weapons / Classes etc.

That’s now. You’re making the assumption that D3 engine won’t handle more than 8 people because it can’t now. When RTCW:2 is released (in at least 12 months time I’d suggest) I wouldn’t be suprised to see the code rewritten to handle it. It’s been well documented that DooM3 was all about SP. I think RTCW would concentrate on MP just as much as the first one did, perhaps more. And considering the hardware infrastructure will have improved greatly as far as power is concerned in 12 months, I don’t think there’s a basis to think the D3 engine can’t produce a winning MP game.
