ROE for ET:QW??

These may not make sense to some here, but to others this is a very important question.

Essentially, bf2 and 2142 had e-police (gestapo) type group that was enlisted by EA to catch anyone doing anything in the game against a so called “rule book” that was published on some backwater website by a kid who became the leader of BFROE http://www.bfroe.com (or battlefield Rules of Engagement) Essentially these people volunteered to explore for players and servers that had been reported to be using glitches, using more “advanced” tactics and people playing in knife and pistol only servers. These players who were caught were “reset” as in all stats were set to 0 and with no where to go for any appeal or anything. The whole goal of this was to make the ranking system fair, but it caused a HUGE rift in the community and HUGE amount of bickering and reporting and e-drama nonsense.

Just curious if this sort of thing is going to happen to ET:QW as the ranking system and stats system has been confirmed.

Personally i was very against the ROE as i believe if you don’t want us to be able to do it in a game code it out! Don’t make more rules and have people police them just because we are getting creative

anyways does anyone know if they’ll be doing something like this, because if they are i think ALOT of people will be very very disappointed.

It seems fairly ridiculous to have a set of game police going around investigation x amount of claims. If anything the time it would take is likely to be enormous.

Most decent servers will have an admin or people on it who can see if someone is acting like an ass and so enforce sensible gameplay.

Whilst Id agree that stats breaking etc is pretty dumb, something like this would most likely cause rifts in the community and e-drama. ETQW would be much better off without.

This will not affect ET:QW, and I doubt would be implemented. The difference being that in BF people stat whored to get all new unlockable content that they kept all the time. In ET:QW any unlocked items are gone at the end of a campaign anyway so there would be no use in resetting people’s stats. Besides, let the people play the game how they like, as long as it doesn’t involve hacks. When, not if, hacking becomes a part of ET:QW let vigilant server admins and punkbuster deal with them. No need for the devs/publishers to strongarm in and tell people how to play the game. In your example you mention knife/pistol only servers…Big deal, if people want to play like that, let them. No need for a Big Brother game stopping you from enjoying it.

Yet another reason against persistant unlocks, thankfully SD are wise!

this is only a problem with bf2 because the game is so poorly put together that there are all these glitches and exploits. they should spend more time making a more solid game that doesn’t allow players to use the glitches rather than punishing the people who find them

the fact that splash damage are developing quake wars should put you at ease if your worried about things like that happening in quake wars. Also the doom3/quake4 engine imo is much more solid than the bf2 engine

Nope. Seeing how the stats system is not bound to the way you play the game, I’m sure it will be affected by how much and how you play.
This means that people could demote automatically, and it wouldn’t even mean a big hit to them if they just wouldn’t be so narcisstic about their rank.

The only thing resetting your stats could do is that everyone would run away from you as soon as you pick a rocket launcher and are classified as a newbie.
One of those things to go on my “to do in ET:QW” list.

I am an avid user of ‘advanced’ tactics. If the game allowes the player to do something to give a little edge on the enemy, and it does not give a great unfair advantage, (That is: They can still kill you by normal means.) then I am all for it.

The people that complain about trickjumping, (which is all exploiting) strafejumping, (also exploiting) and other tactics like bunnyhopping, are really just noobs, and complain becasue they themselves cannot do it.

Any external program that you use to modify the basic gameplay, any program to mess with the packets, any obvious bug (like falling underground/inside a building) that makes it impossible to kill you by ordinary means is all things you should not do.

In the games I play, I fully use any aspect of the game to give me the edge. Whether that be strafejumping, or some unique movememnt that makes it really hard to hit me based on the client side hit detection. The thing is, it is accepted among the vetren crowd, so it’s perfectly find to do. There are some bugs where you can fall through the ground and call in an orbital strike with no chance of getting hurt. Those are really lame to use and are cheating. When I run past a mine, I always try to put an object between me and the mine so when I get close enough to set it off, it does not damage me. That is most cernainly an exploit. But only an idiot would run over the mine to blow it up.

In ET:QW this may include placing the littile radar thing on your vehicle so you can enjoy the radar while you drive. I’m sure that was not intended, and thus an exploit, but it’s a perfectly ok thing to do. If I can get my squad of guys to hop on the roof of an aircraft while the aircraft lifts them up to a roof that is normally inaccessable, I will do that. If I find rapidly tapping my fire key allows me near full auto fire with almost no cone of fire, then I will do that. Your an idiot if you don’t.

This game is going to present so many different ways to play no one will be able to guess all the stuff that us players will eventually come up with. It will be just like ET over time people’s tactics are going to change as everyone starts learning different stuff to do, and different ways to do it. And as long as these tactics are used to win a map, as long as its fair, then why would their be a problem. This game is made for coming up with new tactics to win, in fact, that is one of the reasons ET is so great, and a reason why QW will be great too.

Witch hunt…

IMHO persistent game stats are unnecessary in ET:QW.

I want team mates who are interested in what happens on the map they’re playing right now. Not people pulling asinine stunts just to improve their stats.

As long as the stats don’t give you an in game advantage (which it has been said many times that they do not) there isn’t any call for this kind of thing.

Hopefully SD will also avoid giving medals for silly things that don’t assist your team at all.
