Rifle Grenades Unbalancing?

Lots of complaints have been voiced about how powerful medics are, but I haven’t heard anything about how unbalancing rifle grenades seem to be. Basically it is an instant kill weapon, that is quickly deployable (unlike a panzerfaust). If the enemy seems you and he has one, you are dead. Period … no defense. If you hide by a wall, he fires it at the area, and you are dead … Period, no defense.

Is this really an uber weapon? How do people defend themselves against it. Is the only defense to not attack engineers?

Well I think its about time, engineers never have crap so no one ever wants to be one, but now even noobs will try ( nice change, now you almost never have to beg for a engineer) Medics have health, Lut have ammo, soilders have a selection, spys have the abilty to spy. Now Ive played a little Wolf Tactics and if you think this engineers abilty to reload is bad be a soilder with a panzer in that. Takes about 2 seconds

The rifle grenade itself I think is fair, but the ammo loadout is a little bit too much. A L1 engineer gets 8 rifle grenades in addition to the 8 hand grenades. I think it would be better if he got 8 combined, rather than a total of 16 grenades. 8 is plenty. Good business for field ops, though. Almost as good as feeding a mortar.

Well Dano you think this weapon is already a very powerful one,well how do you feel if i said some people want the rifle made better than an SMG at long range.

To be honest i think its perfect as it is when it comes to the balance of the game.

Rifle 'nades are good, yes.

They are my favorite weapon in the game.

If you go up against an engie w/ a garand/k43 and yer in an open area, just strafe left and right like crazy, WITHOUT running forward at the same time.

This should help you out, cuz if they miss w/ that rifle 'nade and you have a fully-auto, they’re pretty much dead.

If yer in a corridor and you come up against a rifle engie, SAY YOUR PRAYERS.

Well if anything was done to nades, make them kickable. I think this would change alot. For one, it be alot harder to instant gib anyone AND second, if in a hallway the person firing the nade could be the one who dies. Maybe make some people re-think there choice of weopons

Personally i dislike the rifle nade cuz it’s the most easy weapon in the game (a lot easier than the panzer even). I always was contra the m4 nades in SoF 2, this is just the same thing. Player with rifle nade hits panic button, and blows u and himself up where u otherwise would have nailed him no problem. Waay too easy, most players I play with agree completely. Dunno if it’s possible, but a way to limit or forbid the rifle nades would be handy. Yes I play as an engineer myself often enough, don’t see where the rifle nade makes it so much nicer…

Also the longer I’ve been playing, the more I get bugged about the thompson/mp40 unbalance. I play like ten times better with an mp, so i try to switch weapon asap, but usually am without ammo then for a while and get killed… sigh. At least in regular RtCW there was a class in each team where u could get the other smg :frowning:

the rifle nades are an unusual one. I play with them a lot and they have saved my hide on many occasions. I do agree that you start with a lot more nades than you should. I think maybe 3 would be more appropriate.

As for the newb approach to using them, yes they can be dangerous, but so can the panzer. And grenades are much shorter range than that thing.

In addition, there is a skill element to them. An experienced grenadier can launch them into very unusual places, making it easier to prevent the opposition from “digging in”. A really good grenadier can pinpoint drop rifle grenades at very long distances, but it requires a lot of skill and practice - something the panzer simply does not require.

As mentioned above, if you meet a rifle grenade in a tight space, then you are both going down. If you see one in the open, it’s very easy to avoid. I tend to use the rifle grenades as a “drop shot” weapon to pick off snipers and MG42s. Sometimes when I have a nade on my weapon and meet someone I have no choice but to fire it - it’s them or me and I’m not about to spend 3 seconds unloading the nade just to be “fair” to my opponent.

In my experience the only people who have complained about rifle grenades have been those that complain about every weapon except the SMG. And these are usually the people that you see standing around in spawns handing out ammo or health so they can get XP instead of fighting the battle. What do they want - for every person in the game to use only SMGs? It’ll be the MG42s coming under fire next. Then nobody should be allowed hand grenades because they are too dangerous. And heaven forbid someone should be allowed to steal someones uniform…

Too many people complain about a weapon without bothering to learn the technique to defeat them. They all just want one on one firefights with SMGs - newsflash people: this isn’t quake!

Rifle nades do take practice to use efficiently. Remember as an Engy you have a recharge between firing and you will be doing other stuff to deplete your bar.

They are not as easy to use as a PF or as explosive, but they are very useful for taking out nests etc. In many ways they are more adaptable - you can bounce a nade off a wall and around a corner.

You have to balance this with the innaccuracy of the unscoped garand. But that’s another thread. :banghead:

:drink: Buy that man a beer. Well said. I too am sick and tired of the whiners. No weapon in this game is uber - all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. I just wish people would STFU and deal.

:disgust: Well that’s what forums are for, to discuss what some may feel are unbalanced, etc. I think the rifle grenades are a bit too powerful myself, but splashdamage isn’t going to nerf it, so we do have to deal, but why can’t we complain? Complaining is a good way of venting sometimes unless you’re constantly whining.

Cobralord, go find some ammo racks! Heheh. Or at the very least take out 2 axis and take both their weapons so you got a bit of ammo, and then just mp40 whore every single one you see on the ground like I do. :cool:

rifle grenades are like panz without the drawbacks. i dont see the relevance of saying “it isnt quake” in defence of the grenade launcher.

its funny seeing people whine about the whining and saying to STFU. Practice what you preach?

Yeh, I try, but Murphy’s law takes a big part too ofcourse, always encounter the enemy when u don’t get the ammo :wink: I just notice that most games there aren’t enough fieldops around (it happens a lot I take that class simply cuz it’s necessary), but that’s just part of the general impression that on most teams balanced games with decent teams are still pretty rare. I guess the learning period for new periods isn’t over yet eh :wink:

Concerning the rifle nades, well, I admit they probably require skill at long range and as such they are a very acceptable weapon (just like the mortar which is fucking annoying but very effective if a guy knows how to use it). It’s just the ‘panic button’ part that bothers me, click - shoot - instant blow. With the panzer u hear the ‘pweet’ and in that time u can still kill the bastard, the rifle nade is just instant shot, instant blow :slight_smile:

Anyways, I am an SMG fan myself, but I appreciate most other weapons in ET. I find it more balanced than regular RtCW concerning FFE, Airstrikes and Panzers. Mainly because the maps are bigger I think. Oh, but I do play on “g_heavyweaponrestriction 10” servers (1 pzf per team etc), so that probably makes a HUGE difference :wink:

Yes bani is the man, if it wasnt for him most of us woulnt be playing as of today. I love kickable nades ( tell that one to your hunny once )
