Rhino takes too little skill for how much of an impact he has on pub games.

Use Explosives fragger or nader doesn’t matter, flush him out/destroy healing station he’s may or may not be camping with.

Use alternate approaches rather then funnel down the area he camps. (sometimes i notice that people charge at him rather than go around)

Coordinate with your team to take him out have one player flank and shoot while the others shoot at him. He’s fairly slow and kill the the medic typically he’s paired with Aura

Engage him at long range, his minigun wrecks house close up but falls off the farther you are.

I know all of this is easier said then done but it usually works for me.

and on another note if you don’t have a merc with explosives

http://www.pcgamer.com/watch-the-full-dirty-bomb-e3-trailer-and-get-a-free-mercenary/

fragger is free so you can get him.

tl;dr?

There are various ways to get rid of him

(umberInlet) #3

We are talking about pub games here, @veiledBerry . Teamwork doesn’t exist.

(MyPingIsHuge) #4

@veiledberry So you’re forced to play certain mercs just to get rid of one? Isnt that pretty much what OP is?

(veiledBerry) #5

you don’t need those mercs specifically I was just pointing them out but some mercs have advantages(e.x long range) Skyhammer the first merc you get he can outrange him and others such as Proxy have disadvantages (she’s fast but she has low health and short range). Rhino is slow when he turns take advantage of that by flanking him, obviously go for head shots. When i mentioned those mercs its because when they’re played properly rhino as your opponent isn’t that bad.

On a side note: Rhino is a frontline merc so he’s durable Fragger and Nader are also frontline mercs (fair amount of health, better range) and as such they have a better chance compared to aura or proxy (high damage but low health ).

tl:dr? get behind him, he’s especially slow if hes winding his minigun, you can kill him with any merc but some definitely have an easier time.

Fragger (50k merc) is free when you put your email address at the bottom of the article (no clue on how many keys are left) takes a few hours, but hey its free.

Seriously? Another thread saying Rhino is OP? Rhino is a free kill unless he’s played by a good player and is supported by at least one medic (the exact could be said of any merc, but rhino especially). I thought these threads would end now that I rarely even see a single rhino in pubs even while he’s free.

I thought everyone who didn’t own him and were crying for a nerf had realized he’s not the OP monster they thought he was. And that you actually have to play with some thought and patience and coordination to do well with him. A play style that is honestly kind of boring compared to the rest of the mercs.

(Mescman) #7

the worst rhinos you can kill by moving in fast and just emptying a clip to their head, it’s pretty easy since they are so very, very slow.

(Fuze) #8

I’m finding Rhino to be quite annoying, but not insanely OP. Mainly because he is the only Merc in the game that can kill you the moment you turn a corner, giving you no chance to react or retreat. You can argue that Vassili can do the same, but it takes a lot more skill as opposed to the ‘aim in a general direction and hold fire’ that is Rhino. You can’t throw a grenade at his balls if you’re not even given the chance to throw one and then pull back and that’s the problem. He isn’t a threat at greater distances, but most fighting spots on all of the maps are dedicated to close-medium ranges. As for sneaking up on him, good luck with that. Fighting a Rhino around a corner that has a distance greater than your explosive radius is suicide, regardless if he is camping on a healing station.

I was just in a game where a single Rhino held a part of Chapel ( by the building in the middle ) basically by himself, standing on top of a healing station. You know why? Because everyone on my team insisted on going the same route ( running up the stairs behind him ), and getting right in his face. It was tragic and beautiful at the same time.

I got tired of it, grabbed Fragger, blew him sky high along with two medics.

Only if he’s already spinning his minigun. In which case you can hear him a mile off.

A thousand times this…

He’s not a major threat.

Hear him a mile off? You mean the sound that goes through walls, half way across the map and gives you no indication to their location, making it impossible to know which corners or doorways are safe? Heck, I can track footsteps better than that garbage. The fact that you can hear him a mile off is the problem. I can’t tell if he’s right around the corner or 3 buildings across when it’s not being effected by walls, direction or volume. All that sound is saying is that there is a Rhino somewhere on the map that is revving up his gun.

(Reddeadcap) #12

I’ve literally beat a rhino to death with a cricket bat while he’s facing me because he couldn’t aim at me, and also what is counter play?!

with nitro Aug Rhino can walljump in your face, spinning mid-air and shredding you upon landing.

(CCP115) #14

Rhino isn’t really OP, his minigun is to be honest. The damage is insane, and yea I know, it’s inaccurate, but most of the maps are pretty damn close quarters.

(Aazhyd) #15

I saw a guy at work today who looks EXACTLY like Rhino.

Well, without the minigun, fortunately.

(incredibleHoneydew) #16

Maybe nerfing the damage on that spinning baby would be nice. But indeed, on medium-long range, Rhino dies fighting any MG wielding Merc. The more frequent Rhino players now that and just camp around corners. So I’m still sticking to my “Lower minigun damage” statement.

First time playing the merc. “hurr durr all you need is 2 grenades at the same time” yea, say that in a PUB while people laugh at you in russian.

It’s a little unreal how scared people are of Rhino and Nader. Start spinning that mini gun, or plunking nades with the launcher and watch all the new players scatter to the wind. It’s crazy. However, just because new players don’t know how/are too scared to deal with Rhino doesn’t make him OP. When experienced people are playing, he’s a non issue. When I see him on the enemy team I see him as a free kill.

The problem is, while he may be a little OP against new players, he’s so situational against experienced players that you virtually never see him in Dirty Cups. If he was actually OP, don’t you think you’d see him and Nader more in high level competetion?

(brawnyJester) #19

Posting a 13-0 score in a pub(u can do that with any merc) because people have some kind of mental deficiency where they cant aim doesn’t mean Rhino is OP.

Well good for them. He’s still a fat slowpoke who needs a babysitter.
