Returning User Trying To Log In

Hi there,

I bought ET:QW in 2007, I found my order and delivery confirmation in my email but for the life of me, I cannot find my disk anywhere, so I went online to see if I could grab it cheap from Steam or GOG but couldn’t find it anywhere, well, except to buy it again from Amazon, but I’ll go down that road as a last resort…

So I ahem downloaded it (I KNOW I KNOW, I’m not proud!) but for the life of me I can’t remember my login details, and I don’t have the original disk to type the license code so… Is there an authentication/registration site I can go to, where I can put in forgot password or whatever and hopefully find my old account??

I hope I made it clear, I’m not a pirate! I bought the damn thing for £17.99GBP when it came out! I just want to recover my old account or somehow find out my old license key.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

If you are just unsure what your password is and have been trying it might be that you lack the patch.

Ut oh Huston we have a problem!

I tried to connect to a few servers but I get these errors:

“Can’t connect to the pure server: no downloads offered.”
“You must have PunkBuster enabled to join that server.”

eek, how do I get punkbuster for ETQW because I looked in it’s list but ETQW wasn’t there.

Also, if it says can’t connect etc, it could be that you don’t have certain files that the server you are trying to join has, and if the server doesn’t offer a download of said files you get that message…I think…

EDIT: It kind of surprises me you need PunkBuster though, where are you trying to join? Most the active pubs these days don’t require it. I tested with Jesus and it seems PunkBuster is not needed. Are you trying to join a public server with bots? You know how to spot the difference right?

OK It’s official, I’m an idiot. I just now noticed the little punkbuster box in the top left corner. But even still, the servers that returned the punkbuster error message, now return the “No downloads offered” message or they “offer to part download some files”.

The only server I can join successfully out of 9 or so in the server browser list is “Geiji ETQW 1.5”

regarding the bots, I believe the number of bots is the number inside the brackets? 20/34 (20) = 20 bots right?

The only servers that are active much lately on EU side is The Group Thing Gather, Jesus-Clan and TAW EU vanilla public, on NA side BBA and sometimes TAW NA vanilla public. If you can join these you should be okay.

I know for a fact being a TAW EU member myself that our server does not use PunkBuster, so if you can’t join that one you have some other issue.

And yes, the bots are the numbers in brackets, so if there are no brackets all the players are human.

Punkbuster issue is all fine now, the main issue now is I can see all the servers you mention but I can’t connect to any of them because they “don’t offer downloads”. The only server I can connect and play is Geiji.

I checked the game this morning and the maps the servers use are there in the game so I have no idea what files the servers need??

One solution you can try is to delete everything the game recreates when you start it.

You should have certain files in My Documents and in your local files under your user name in the hidden folder AppData, try and delete that and then restart the game. Could be that something has gone wrong.

I’m not a specialist on this solution though, maybe you can come on teamspeak sunday evening and I got a guy there that can help you?

Thanks. I deleted them in both locations, this time when I select TAW (for example), the game says “This server offers to part download files” which are about 29-30mb, but after it downloads them, I get the same “No downloads” message again…

Btw, if you didn’t have your CD how did you install the game? There are a lot of broken torrents around. How big was the install? 5GB+ or?

I probably picked a rubbish torrent, serves me right. It was: Quakewars_jimbused.iso 4.23gb
Supposedly its v1.5 already…

Well well well, I found my disc in a storage container at my folks house. There was even Quake 4 in there and I don’t even remember buying that!
Sorry for reviving the thread but I’m just happy I found it!
