The problem after all was a messed up keyboard (I got suspicious when my computer started typing the number 6 on a word processing document all on its own).
Im also very happy because im getting an average 300fps on fastest mode (150 fps on normal mode :D)
So now thats fixed i can play Et no problems at all. Plus i just bought new games for it (Halo, Unreal tounament 1 2 and 3, diablo 1 and 2, half life and rtcw)

|You dont know how much bother ive had trying to play games on my pc…finally eveything is working after about 9 months of trying to get it to work.
the problems ive had trying to play ET and other games are:
2)Pc restarting so much that important files and antivirus files disappear, causing me to scrub the drive and redo everythign again (including my 1200 downloaded songs)
3)Finally figure out problem : Graphics card wasnt suitable for games (S3 prosavage DDr)
4)Buy a new pc with one of the best graphics cards out right now (Geforce FX5200 128mb)
play ET for 20 mins no problems untill…
i run forward and let got to stop running…i keep on runnign and dont stop
7)Main gun was switching to grnades or medi packs etc automatically without me doing anything
9)Internet explorer became et
figure out i have a sticky keyboard and take back to shop
get a new keyboard and but £100 worth of game sin the process
(sorry for caps) NO MORE PROBLEMS WOOHOO!!!

Still poking along on my P3 1.0 GHZ with a 64MB ATI Radeon card. Runs ET ok I guess. Hard to Justify a $1,500 to $2,000 investment so I can play ET more obsessively. My wife has this bizarre obsession with paying the mortgage instead. Plus, no DSL in my area available. WHAAAAAA! My kids re-mapped my keyboard recently. took me days to figue it out. Congrats on the new unit.
Now if that were to happen to more people, this world would truly be a better place!

I don’t give a flying f*ck what you think of my graphics card. Im getting 150fps on all maps on normal mode with it and 300fps if i switch it to fastest . That i’ll do for me
Oh yeah…anything beats my old graphics card (S3 pro Savage DDR). i got a stupid 7 fps with that. Thats if it decided to work coz 9 times oitta 10 my computer would restart itself.

Yeah right, 150 - 300 fps everywhere on a fx5200? What res are you playing at? try playing a map like radar with some action going on, i bet it will drop to more like 30 fps.

I went from my downstairs 2.6/8ghz with 128mb Gf4 Ti4800SE. Now, was playing @ 1280x1024 Medium Detail @ 125 no probs… not even a single slow down or drop in maps like Radar and Railgun. Now, even alongside 1GB Dual Channel DDR Ram and a K7-2ghz im lucky to sit on 70/80. And indeedy it does drop to 30ish on Radar and Railgun. 
Still, not a problem and I can still play fine just use a maxfps toggle for certain maps and areas.
Note, this is even at 640x480 or 800x600 @ lowest detail. DX 9.2b or 9.1b, cant mind, plus the drivers that came with card, official nVidia latest stableist ones @ time of card package. Still, should bump up a bit when I get me ice cooling setup and clock the fucker… :]
lol, ive got a radeon 9800 pro and cant get 125 fps all the time, most maps about 70, lowest detail possible, 1024x768. (got a XP2000 and 1GB ddr). :eek2:
