Resistance vs Security

(H0RSE) #61

I know what you mean… this seems to spread into about every element in a game and we end up losing a lot of nice features because some people feel they are super serious problems. Sometimes you can fix something instead of simply getting rid of it, but oh wells.
Yeah, make taunts fun rather than offensive. And for the teabagging, If I knew how to code, I would attempt to implement a feature where the game could determine where enemies were that you killed, and make it so you couldn’t crouch over their fallen body. Or, since that may interfere with gameplay, make it so if you teabag anyone, you lose points or you next spawn time is increased by 10 sec. or something like that. And if you do it enough, you will be automatically booted. If professional sports have penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, they should have counter-measures implemented into games as well.

bind F5 “toggle cg_novoicechatsounds” ftw!

what about console players? And having a bind command that many people don’t know about or know how to use, is hardly what I call an effective counter-measure…it should be an option available in the menus.

Spamming it makes it offensive. And my bind is super effective because it works. I’m pretty sure there is an option to turn off voicechats in the menu in ETQW though.

(AnthonyDa) #63

Console players can press “start” then “option” and check if yes or no Vsays (manuals or automatics ones) are enabled.

(H0RSE) #64

It doesn’t matter if a taunt is offensive or not. Spamming it makes it offensive.
So a line like, “take that, bitch!” is only offensive if it’s used 5 times in a row?..gotcha. If something is offensive, it’s offensive…it doesn’t need to be repeated multiple times before it sinks in. Spamming it just makes it MORE offensive.

And my bind is super effective because it works.
I didn’t say it wasn’t…It does work well, for people who know about binds .cfg files…what about those that don’t?

Console players can press “start” then “option” and check if yes or no Vsays (manuals or automatics ones) are enabled.
Oh, you have played Brink, or at least seen it’s menu screens?

(.Chris.) #65

It’s called a proposal…

(INF3RN0) #66

Idk why people even let e-insults bother them in the first place. Vsay spamming can just be annoying.

(.Chris.) #67

Well yeah but they are measures that can be introduced to minimise that possibility without removing them outright. Its not exactly going to break the game if they have indeed removed them altogether but they do add to the overall feel of the game and add character further distinguishing it from other titles out there in my opinion.

The tongue in cheek vsays in SD’s previous games made already funny situations that occurred even more so like when used right after someone made a silly mistake resulting in killing them selves or accidentally Tking half there team with \ misplaced airstrike or so.

Ha sehr gut!

(Voxie) #69

[QUOTE=brbrbr;217103]wrong.
try “streamline” any of you body parts without inflicting [serious]injury.
point is, EXERY SINGLE ONE feature of ANY games SHOULD extince, because such BS/nonsense ? i don’t think so.
because every feature have criticism against. this help to improve things, sometimes.
but hurting product to favor [minor ones]one person, hurting needs of another is not way to make working palliative decision/product.
so in terms of Commercial success, this strategy is fail/fail/
let alone PR impact.

p.s.
google about sculptor works or writers. for example.
80% of job is CUTTING OUT[with pain in heart].[/QUOTE]

I sincerely hope that your translator just failed you or something. My objection was that just because you change a gameplay mechanic to be more accessible doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re crippling the game. To give a practical example: strafe jumping, circle strafing, bunny hopping, et all are techniques loved by a lot of gamers. The problem is that they’re very counter-intuitive and tend to scare away newcomers. Therefore, Brink doesn’t feature any of those mechanics. As a substitute, there’s SMART. So instead of relying on engine bugs to skillfully maneuver your surroundings you’ve got a very simple and several magnitudes more intuitive way to cross terrain. Sure, it won’t fill the void some people will feel from losing a (for them) natural way of interfacing with the game world, but it sure is more accessible and therefore more streamlined.

(AnthonyDa) #70

Also you can restrict (with server cvar) the max number of Vsays per minute. Shouldn’t be that hard to block user to spam 3X more the same Vsay too in a row.

(brbrbr) #71

yes and not.
i mean, that balancing things is not REQUIRE destruction of game feature, in most cases.
moreover, more careful fine-tuning of existing feats - works way better.
simple example - there is 1st EVER post, containing compliant about taunt misuse.
so, creating game[like (almost)any other product]is not like using Nuke to build house.
instead you put proper things in proper places.

p.s.
taunts in online/mutiplayer FPS have long story.
i suggest you to study google/wiki 4 some info/examples.

(Voxie) #72

Some features are better off as they are, some ought to be tweaked and some are best of removed completely. That’s a given, right?

Lol, what’s up with you constantly telling people to do their research?
I don’t know whether you’re implying that there’s been taunts in online shooters for a long time, or that shooters with taunts have a better longetivity, mind to clarify on that?

(brbrbr) #73

point is removing feats COMPLETELY, usually sacrifices much more, than improves.
in comparsion to tweaked/improved features.
this cas save some time, nothing more.

because its BETTER way, to understanding, rather than pushing own Point of View thru opponent throat/brain.
and better working.

both claims are true.

I see you point, and I didn’t disagree with it. I simply stated that different problems calls for different solutions.

My quarrel is that most of the time what you’re suggesting people to research is more-or-less irrelevant to the topic at hand.

But this is a game two can play, after all; take a look at this, this, this, this, and this. Might be something to take into consideration.

(wisejord) #75

Resistance, i just love the way they look :stuck_out_tongue: lol , stolen and re-used clothing to make armor looks immense!

its ordinary defense of ignorant peoples.
“i don’t want to know[literally anything]!!”
point is to both have Own opinion AND provide WORKING way to project it to situations.
instead of trying subvert/hijack audiencies/talk.

(Voxie) #77

Heh, you crack me up. I have no problem with divulging information, as long as it’s relevant. I’m not ignorant nor am I trying to be (the fact that I read your posts well over 10 times to make sure I at least partly understand them is evidence enough of that).

Say I link you to an article on Wikipedia about how giraffes copulate right now, and you dismiss it because you think it’s irrelevant, would you call yourself ignorant or just capable of filtering rubbish?

Edit: Just skimmed through my post and noticed the huge irony of lecturing about relevance in a thread about something completely different. We might have our differences, but seeing how half of the post on this forum are now about us quarreling, maybe we should stick to PM’s henceforth?

I’m going with Security at this stage ^^ I prefer the clean-cut professional high-tech looking gear to leather straps and binbags ^^

I figured it would come down to choosing a side based on looks, rather than what they stand for.

(Emperor Erno) #80

For me at least :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t find myself immersed in the storyline of games too often these days… plus I’ve yet to decide who I think’s in the right at this stage so looks are the deciding factor at present ^^
