Request: Low Volume option

(H0RSE) #41

Yeah, which is why games sell so much better on consoles that developers have been dumping ports on PC for the past five years.

Just because one product sells more than another, doesn’t mean the lower selling product isn’t superior.

Console sells more primarily for ease of use and price, NOT because it has more features, better hardware or is more versatile. The game industry is a business and consoles are currently where the money is, so even if consoles weren’t even comparable to a turd in terms of performance, if it’s what makes money, it’s what publishers push for games to be developed on.

You make it seem as though games sell better on console because consoles offer more than PC’s, which isn’t the case at all. In fact, it is the exact opposite. Their appeal stems from not overwhelming the consumer with options, and being a much more confined and controlled platform.

ease of use is a huge selling feature, and should be. Games are fun, not Physics classes. Consoles supply a need, money. Gaming would be difficult with only PCs fueling the industry

(LyndonL) #43

You’re honestly going to tell me it’s hard to use a PC? 5 year olds do it… My Mum can even send emails and she only learnt to send text messages on her phone a couple of years ago!!

(Linsolv) #44

It’s not “hard,” but it’s “expensive.” I can get a 360 right now for $200. I recently looked into buying a PC to do some gaming, and it can’t realistically do it for below $600.

EDIT:

Also, yeah. Sometimes it is hard. I downloaded W:ET this afternoon, thinking ‘maybe I can play some Wolfenstein and have some fun.’ I worked at getting onto a server for 2 hours and played 3 minutes of Wolfenstein.

(LyndonL) #45

Everything has its issues. RROD for XBox?

I’ll accept “expensive”… but not “hard”. Not with Windows 7 becoming to be on the majority of pcs these days.

(Nail) #46

writing an e-mail is a slightly different ability than writing a .cfg

(LyndonL) #47

Oh ok, and we need to write cfg files to play games? I’ve been doing it wrong all these years.

Exactly. Ease of use, accessibility, focus, security, and plug and play are for a lot of people much preferable to just prettier graphics and better frame rate. For a person who values his free time and doesn’t want hassle the console experience is far superior.

The following is my last attempt at PC gaming and this is not bull****:

  1. Hours researching parts, their compatibility with each other, and finding the best value for them.

  2. Half an hour putting the PC together.

  3. Piece doesn’t fit, file it down, finish putting PC together.

  4. Spend hours installing Windows Vista, drivers for every piece of hardware, game, patches.

  5. Drivers incompatible, revert to default, wait for new ones.

  6. Game has issues with Vista or drivers. Spend half an hour to an hour trying to get it to work.

  7. Ten minutes dialing in all the settings and customizing the keys.

  8. Start game, find out that despite having the latest and greatest hardware it’s practically unplayable on max with a good framerate.

  9. An hour with Tweak Guide trying to get as much performance with as little visual sacrifice as possible.

  10. Ten minutes trying to find a server that doesn’t have god awful user made maps or mods.

  11. Found decent server, kicked some ass, got banned for “hacking” and/or stealing a tank that the admin has a god given birth right to.

  12. Found another decent server, entire teams gets wiped out within the first five seconds of round start and within microseconds of spawning. All because little Billy doesn’t feel like he should play on an even playing field and by the developer’s rules.

  13. Lose your cool, have video of you posted on Youtube titled “Angry German Kid”

Hey, you’re practically a celebrity!

Is your name FaceOnVag/VagOnFace? Or is that an awesome coincidence?

(EcafNoGav) #51

LOL, as the great Frasier Crane once said, “There are no accidents.”

I find it more enriching to solve electronics problems than to sit and complain about them. If you don’t have the skills or patience for it then you have to spend more money. If you’re not willing to do that then you’re wasting your time and money on a hobby you do for the sake of others.

Why be in the mindset that you must play video games to be chic or to fit in? You need to realize a bigger picture and think critically about these things. Society doesn’t have to pressure you to conform to some living standard. Video gaming is supposed to be a fun hobby, not a status symbol.

There are plenty of console players who are the opposite. They like video games but haven’t tried PCs because they’d prefer personal guidance over self study and forums. Some find PCs too expensive to maintain and go back to consoles. Troubleshooting and upgrading a PC is the reality of the hobby. If you have $4000 you can pay Alienware to solve your list of issues and continue gaming without having to learn anything. Most prefer to learn because it is worth their time to save that money. Most wealthy PC gamers will also be into cars, boats, aircraft, and other expensive things.

Your scenario right now is the same and you’re not listening to what anyone is saying. A quick fix is to buy a $2 pot and solder it in series. You have no idea what that means so you need to spend more money on a consumer oriented rather than a DIY solution. An xbox branded headset would be the most logical purchase. A used AV receiver would be the most practical and versatile one. Everyone is mocking you because rather than being reasonable about this you continue to complain. Either take action or find somewhere else to complain, because this is just childish.

(BioSnark) #53

the lowest standard is the best. look at facebook gaming.

(Herandar) #54

Look at WalMart customers. Oh, there’s a sniper!

(BioSnark) #55

where? I just see a shrub

If it were possible to high-five you over the internet, I would.

Give the man rep. Click on the Rate Post button on the bottom left corner of his post.

(Auzner) #58

But before doing that remember I trolled both of your SLI threads.

(Herandar) #59

How did I create an SLI thread? I don’t even know what that is.

Also, why hold on to petty grudges? I don’t even fault you for the art thread. That was totally the other guy.

(master[mind]) #60

I don’t hold grudges. :stuck_out_tongue: I think your post clearly stated what should have been said at the beginning of this thread, which deserves congratulations.

@Herander:
I didn’t start my SLI thread to argue with people.

The conversation just ended up in a heated debate.
