if you look at that you can see a repeating texture in the rocks I thought this was ment to be fixed in the megatexture

Sorry, I don’t see a repeating texture. I see slight differences.

There is only a limited set of ways you can draw something before it starts ‘looking’ alike. (even if it actually isn’t). eg: How many different way can you draw … grass?

I’m assuming its because that map is still in the middle of being worked on and there are still little thing to be tweaked with the graphics :slight_smile:

I think he means the rocks along the ridge under the Strogg Hornet, there is a repeating pattern there

even if it were an issue, how long did you look at the screen to figure that out and how long do you think you’ll look at the same screen during a game and even then focus on rocks? :wink:

about 20 seconds I thought I would look at a screen to look at the nice tile freeness of it

Actually I wouldn’t call it a tiled texture.
This rock has been used twice.
That’s all.
There isn’t a repetitive pattern (or better: I can’t see one).

Hello Forum,

megatexture stands not for no repeating objects. So the designer of the texture can use some rocks or what ever twice.

Anyway it wont be able to be seen when your actuerly playing the game I assume so it does not really matter I suppose just was dissapointed thats all

What a lack of detail, what was God thinking!?
I guess his computer didn’t have enough resources back then.

maybe they did use a rock texture twice, that looks like a normal map that got repeated. still how many dif rocks would you have to draw to completely fill a megatexture? give them guys a break! megatex is huge, when i make a regular texture sometimes i tile details in it, specially if it’s gravel or something like that

I think it’s an example of the “rubber stumping” feature of the new level editor which was mentioned in one of the dev diaries.

first, I don’t care at all but, I agree it’s repeating tile, not just a rock. There’s a full pattern used more than once or twice. Perspective and ground contours change the look somewhat, but there is a pattern. It’s used everywhere there’s that type of rock, could be spotlight or w/e they call it to add on top of the MT

yeh lets blame wils!!

I cant see that when playin that map im goin to be lookin down on the
ground sayin to the lads on teamspeak “hey lads look over here, this
map is made up of repeating textures!!!”

i also notice a repeating pattern in the sand, and on the bumps of the road, and water reservoir and palms kinda repeat and and and… please give the artists a break :roll: more uniqueness and the games comes on 6 dvds :smiley:
