Repeated system crashes while connected to servers in ET

Hello, I was referred here via another ET forum, in hopes on someoneknoingwhat is goingon here… :mad: Every time I load ET, I have no problems. i can sit at the main screen for a long time with no issues. When I connect to a server (tested on MANY different servers), I can be connected for about 20 seconds before a full system freeze, after which I have to force shutdown and reboot.

SPECS:
Windows xp sp3
Core 2 duo
T7600 2.33GHz
2g ram
ATI v5250

I have reinstalled twice and updated PB, tried connecting to various servers, and I’m hitting the end of my rope here… Seems like a core issue in either the ET code, or with the interaction between ET and my machine. Could this be because of my core2 duo? (I’ve had/read about problems with intel c2d processors with other games…)

Additionally, I had a friend try to download and play, and he had very similar issues with system freezes. I don’t know his exact system specs, but I know he has a quad core processor and at least 2 gb of ram. I also tried connecting on 5 different networks, 3 wireless and 2 wired.

If anyone has any clue as to a solution, I would be very thankful.

I guess you are missing an update from windows fixing some troubles with more then one cpu…

anyway as I do not remember the kb entry - lol - you can try to set affinity to one cpu…

I set et.exe to run on one core, and now instead of a system freeze, ET 'encounters a problem and needs to close," as windows puts it. :tongue: I guess this is a step in the right direction, I just need to figure out what to do next :confused:

else yes - this is surely the direction to search, yet you got sp3 …
so maybe check for bios, graphic card, chipset updates…

and if all fails… get debian :slight_smile:

heh, I tried that before… I had ubuntu server ed on another partition, and the damn thing decided to erraticly erase my windows partition… So I guess i’ll have to drag out one of my old desktops and hope ET works there

Try to run ET in a compatible modus. Like Windows sp 2.
