Rent Your Server From The Net Gamer

([NG]Owner) #1

For over two and a half years, The Net Gamer has concentrated on Half Life and BF1942 as the game platforms of choice for server rentals. With the introduction of W-ET, we felt there was finally a large enough community and buzz surrounding a new game to branch out into a third server platform.

The Net Gamer has immediate availability for W-ET servers ranging in capacities from 10 to 32 man. And for the time being, seeing as we are still in a beta stage for W-ET servers, we will be using our BF1942 pricing for your W-ET servers. Use this page to price out your server.

Our servers are all all dual P3 or dual Athlon rigs connected to a 100 Mb/s Ethernet to Fiber Internet connection. Yes, the speed of a LAN is the speed of our Internet connection. Bandwidth availability is not an issue for us. We have also set up a test server for you to try out: 66.28.23.88:27960. Or just sort your in game server browser by name. We’ll be at:

posting advertisements on game forums makes your outfit look completely shit, resorting to spam because youre servers dont sell themselves and you’re unwilling to pay for advertising.

:moo:

([NG]Owner) #3

In the two and a half years we’ve been doing this, you’re the first one who’s jumped to that conclusion. Most of the time, people are simply ticked because of the advertisement. Most forums tolerate/welcome posts of this nature, some don’t. Usually I don’t know or can’t tell until I make a post. So I generally ask for forgiveness, rather than permission.

But, thank you for providing me a chuckle here. No one has ever made the leap to say that because of a post in a forum that the outfit “looks completely shit.” You might be interested in knowing that most, if not all, of my esteemed stateside colleagues in the Game Server Hosting business also post in various game forums.

BTW, the servers do sell themselves. Play in any of the five we’ve got set up to see for yourself. Pity you didn’t do that beforehand.

I’m sorry dude, but I also think this type of advertising is out of
place on a forum like this, and does, in my eyes, make you look
cheap.

I mean what if every server provider did this ? our “discussion” would
be full of various company’s spam !

Perhaps a better way to have done it would have been to actually add
some of your own opinions / observations regarding SD’s work,
with a final comment that you host servers, and for more info follow
this link ?

But at the end of the day its up-to the forum mods if they allow it or not.

Good luck in your endeavours,

Hewster

I think its ok to post about your server, if it’s more of an invite to come play at the server. This was more like an advertisement to buy from the company. If people like the server’s reliability and etc, they’ll buy their own. Not because someone posted on a forum.

(Freedom[]Tickler) #6

Team Speak rep made a post in here hawking TS, if Im not mistaken, that thread was deleted. My guess is this thread will be deleted too. I think team speak is great, esp considering its free, like ET.

(DG) #7

the first post is an advertisement for their $erver rentals, not public servers. as in, theyre using someone elses paid forum to advertise their shitty server company at no charge to themselves. not many people are bothered by notices about free stuff

@ [NG]Owner, for the vast majority of gaming forums such advertisements lead to an automatic ban. stop talking utter bullshit.

([NG]Owner) #8

I’ve been banned from one forum over two and a half years for a post of this nature. I’ve posted this message in at least three dozen different forums over the same time period. In some, as I said, gameserver hosts are welcome (a concept seemingly alien to you). Perhaps the forums you frequent are more draconian than the ones I do.

I get the picture that you don’t care for posts of this nature.

Others get the picture that you don’t care for posts of this nature.

What more is left to say? If you had the power to ban me, you already would have. So please, develop some tolerance and move on.

Please don’t post this crap on the forum. I have no problem with you putting a link to something like this in your signature (although it wouldn’t make me like you anymore), but don’t advertise like this. There are too many shitty annoying advertisements on the web and we don’t need them in here.

As Hewster said, this is for discussion…

I dont want to bash or anything, if you have been in business and selling gameservers for 2years, and your using windows as you operating system, thats pretty sad. I think if you ask the majority linux/unix is far more stable and easier to remotly manage.

As much as i dispise retarded posts like this i must correct the reply right before this one. Windows is far easier to remote manage and is far more stable than Linux will ever be. Use remote desktop once and tell me vnc is better =) . Windows 2k3 servers are more stable and reliable and more larger corporations run them on 2000 or 2k3. (more than 3/1 to linux or any other OS), Especially for larger corporations they want Windows not linux. Remember for every 1 teary eyed, 19 year old script kiddy staying up all night fixing shit in linux. There are 100, well paid, and well supported people at microsoft fixing bugs and errors.

As for the Post for advertisement. It is not out of place here. This is ET General Discussion not Tech Support. When I registered i encountered no such “no advertising or promotion of any kind” in the Form. Perhaps a “Advertisment:” before the name of the thread would of been more appropriate but other than that, it’s a free board and a free country, (well atleast around here and where this board is hosted from =)

(comm) #12

Linux is free, and open source, You cant beat that.

Id rather not use microsoft for anything except for Active Directory.

Linux is extremely easy to remotely manage, you might be use to point and click to do everything.

If you look at all the companys selling game servers, there using linux, for the shear realiablity, performance, and user managability.

Even SunOS 2.0 is better than a windows2k advanced server.

(bani) #13

the majority of rtcw and et servers run linux. shrug.

fwiw remote desktop is completely ass when you can use ssh to admin your server.

(VampMaster) #14

Seriously, Most people that posted here said they didn’t like advertising, but still keep bumping this topic by saying they didn’t liked it (Ironic Huh?)

If you don’t like it, Let the topic die.

Personally I don’t care.

(duke'ku) #15

nothing beats ssh and screen -r for remote server management.

([fun]scott) #16

i think you will find corporate servers run unix/ linux instead of windows due to there stability. point taken about support.

(DG) #17

imo best OS to run your server on is whichever has your personal preference :moo:
:stuck_out_tongue:

ps. fwiw i just delete the threads and only ban if its spammed or really cheeky

(comm) #18

You dont need to use screen, you can fork a process in a shell easily, “etstart & >/dev/null”

Should work.

(Migraine) #19

but then you cant monitor it.

just stick this into a start-up script:

#!/bin/sh
screen etded +exec campaigncycle.cfg

easy.

The only people I know who use windows servers, dont understand *nix servers. go figure.
