[Renderer] Texture gridding on Radeon 4xxx series

(phonixzero) #81

Ha this has the highest views and almost the most replies on the Tech help section but, I would love a fix before the weekend =\

(h0munkulus) #82

another 4870 user confirming the problem…

come on guys. this is a huge problem and it affects a lot of people. it is super easy to reproduce and should be fixed asap.

plz at least acknowledge the problem and give us an ETA…

The game was delayed over a year. I would imagine a patch for this in 6 months.

HD 4000’s are “two generations” “old” despite being able to still run just about every game on high settings, especially in crossfire. They’re largely ignored but a lot of people still have them because they’re highly practical cards. I mean for ~$100 used you can get to TWO 4800 series cards and just run anything as you please. Once in awhile 4850’s and 4870’s new go on sale with rebates ending up as $20-40 each. Just because they’re three years old doesn’t mean they should be ignored and untested. It’s not as if this is an old tech whine by a group of obsolete computer users. The 4000 line is still very much a competitive card. As Waaaggh pointed out, 11% of steam users who participated in the survey are still on that generation. Because this thread is 5 pages now I see this as some serious oversight, not just a random fluke a few people here and there get.

I was planning to upgrade my video cards when Brink was released but thought I’d wait first. It looks like some 5k and 6k users get this issue as well and nvidia’s side still has plenty of problems. Deus Ex 3 and Mass Effect 3 will run on my system maxed (ME2 runs 1920x1200 8xAA 16xAF 40fps), so I guess I still won’t be upgrading from two 4850’s soon unless I find a great deal on something. Besides L4D, Brink, and those Q4 '11 titles, those are the only things I’m concerned about right now for graphics. Since Brink is graphically broken all over I’ll just stay put.

3 days and no response past “hey update your drivers”. Man Brink was SO WORTH IT!

(Shindawg) #86

Yeah, I’m getting the same feeling I did when Halo 3 came out… but at least I was able to play it without it looking like I was wearing 5 different pairs of glasses over my eyes.

(Datsyukian) #87

Add another upset customer to the list. I can play between 30-60 minutes before getting this.

i5-2500K
GTX 570
1920x1080, ambient off, v-sync off, max textures
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

at least an official response would have been nice, I guess.

I have to believe they are frantically racing against time to get a patch out by this weekend. The alternative is just too frustrating to think about. The silence is deafening, but they are probably just keeping their mouths shut until they have some 100% concrete information to share with us. I’m trying to remain optimistic about this, otherwise I’ll just get mad, and that’s pointless.

(Honelith) #91

Radeon 4870, 11.2 Catalyst Drivers, got the gridding.

(kilL_888) #92

afraid i have to add my name to the list, too. 4870 here. tried a lot of different drivers. 11.5a of course, 11.5 down to 8.xx. none of them fixed the gridding issue.

i would highly appreciate if we get an official statement about that issue here.

cause, this doesnt help at all… and we’re on page 5 already.

Make sure you are on recent drivers. AMD just released the 11.5 catalyst ones.

i didnt expect to encounter this sort of problems from a sd game. im disappointed that i cant play the game without this major flaw.

other than that, if i ignore the ugly grid and bad framerate, its a lot of fun. i have a list of suggestions that would make the game even more fun, but that will go into another thread.

also, rahdo was right. you nailed the movement. its awsome and absolutely intentional. it takes just a few minutes to get the hang of it. takes longer to master it, i guess. really awsome, really fun.

(shah3211) #93

ATI 4850, 11.5a, same problem.

(Mustang) #94

Just tested with a cheapo 5670 and it doesn’t have this issue

(Emke) #95

2x HD4850… Grid bug… framerate issues… no crossfire support…
HELL YEAH!

(ezralock) #96

another one for the list i am running on the redeon HD 4850 same grid lines problem :frowning:

(Honelith) #97

Just updated my Catalyst drivers to 11.5a, hasn’t done a thing for performance or the gridding.

(zul) #98

Same issues for me. I am using 4890, running 11.5 with the official 11.5a “FIX” which does not fix anything

I REALLY hope we can receive soon some official statement about this annoying problem. I actually pre-ordered the game, which means I trusted Splash Damage.

(mCRM) #99

Same prob here 4850 11.5a dont work.
And only 20 fps with my phenom II x4 -.-
thats annoying

+framerate issues only 20 fps

(mteejay) #100

I can confirm that I am having this issue.

I have intel dual core dual 3.33gjz oc’ed to 4.1ghz, 4870 with 8 gig ram.

I also have a pc with has a 6970 with a i7 960 in the house and that runs it WITHOUT GRIDS…however, even on this relatively new system there is noticable fps issues…brink is extremely resource heavy…

Crysis 2 runs perfectly fine without any fps issues on both systems…and i cannot see why brink would be more intensive than that.

Lets hope that patch makes it way out to the community of 4xxx series of consumers sometime soon as releasing a retail product to general public and not have it work out of the box is NOT acceptable. playing this on lowest settings with post processing and shaders turned off is not right…

I loved et and qw:et…do right by the community that has stood behind you and release a product that works…
