[Renderer] Nvidia OpenGL driver has lost connection with the display driver

(jfunk) #501
I’m not sure what to think… do these solutions point more toward drivers or game issues? Sure is a lot of voodoo going on. Glad people have found solutions (mine was 266.58) but have no idea why these are so varied.

The variance does concern me with respect to whether a real solution will be found and when…
Yeah, it’s disconcerting how random results seem to be. I suspect that many of the settings changes people are making basically amount to reducing the load on the GPU. It’s probably just less likely to trigger the less stress the card is under. But being that the crash sometimes doesn’t show up for hours at a time makes it kind of impossible to determine from our end what the triggers might be.

Hopefully it’s not quite so cryptic from their side though. If they can reproduce it in a controlled environment, where they should also have access to more detailed crash reports, it shouldn’t appear as random as it does to us.

GigaByte 460’s are failing at alarming rates, not just on Brink but all games

(jsarver) #503

It’s not just GigaByte’s cards. This seems to be a problem across many 460s. While researching this problem I saw other people with different brands complaining of the same problem.

(Dopaminergic) #504

is it possible to get a refund for this b.s.?

Stupid incompetent developers stealing my money!

(Nail) #505

nope, Steam doesn’t refund, although you could ask them nice

Now <snip>

Now <snip>?
I wish. I got my copy from Direct2Drive on sale so only wasted $37. I will definitely shoot them a ticket. This is absurd.

(dude) #508

DAMN…that sux that it’s not working for you guys. It has worked perfectly for me. I am now on day 3 with not one crash. I just finished my longest session today…6hrs straight…no crashing. There would be absolutely NO WAY I could do that before. I couldn’t even finish the map I was on. It would crash EVERY time before completing it. There are still issues…corrupted fonts (in game play and menu), random disconnect from servers, weird sound issues etc…but no crashing. I dont think the latest patch actually fixed anything if you ask me…lol. I’m tellin you…it was hard for me to believe it could be completely fixed just like that, but it has been…for me. I really hope this will help someone. (:

(Nail) #509

not a refund, that’s a store credit, hardly the same thing

now, <snip>

(Insomnia80) #510

2 weeks and nothing happened.

YOU, SD, sold me the game, not NVidia. YOU sold a game that wont work on lots of customer PCs. No comment here, nothing happened - wtf do you think you can do with loyal customers?!?

My last SD game, i get my refund on steam and buy a GAME THAT I CAN PLAY.

I have seen a lot of buggy games on release, BUT THIS TOPS IT ALL.

(.FROST.) #511

In retrospective all the hipe, the interviews and the nice promo vids, especially “container city” and the render trailer, makes the whole situation even sadder than it would be anyway.

The guys from SD were so enthusiastic and the customers couldn’t wait much longer. Everything seemed perfect. Brink reached its absolut peak the day before release. Then the fame began slowly to crumble and became a freefall in a bottomless pit.

Its just sad when something so ambitionated and anticipated became something little, brown and smelly. Since I received the game on may 16th I roam this forum at least for 2 hours a day just to get the slightest hint of improving patches or configs. I can’t play the game so that’s all that’s left to me. I spend 36 Euro just so I can complain my a$$ off in this forum. That’s how I compensate for not being able to play. By now you owe me 10 evenings of play and fun, ten evenings of my life. I paid for em and you stole em. I feel like I got raped and robbed.

That’s what you got when you try something different. I never owned one of the modern warfare shooters and I don’t mean COD In particular, but all of them. But at least they delivered. I wanted something special, I don’t know what I was thinking. I should have learned from the APB desaster, even though I never owned that game either. But it seems Brink has more in common with APB than anybody would have anticipated.

I’m reaching the point where I don’t want this game to be playable forever. I wan’t it to die, so I can move to something else. I don’t want to hang around in this forum furthermore.

(Nail) #512

leave now, you’re neither contributing nor helping with that whine

(.FROST.) #513

I have the right to whine since those guys make millions with unuseable software. I don’t spend my money on a product to contribute solutions to the producer. I didn’t pay to contribute anything to anyone. I contributed enough in my working place, to earn money, to buy this game and have fun. Its their job to provide an, at least, playable game.

Why is everyone so forgiving? I never bought a book with missing chapters, a comic you have to color yourself, a CD with only half the tracks or a dvd that didn’t work. Till now I haven’t even bought a PC game that was that utterly unplayable and I’m not talking about low frames here, no buddy, I mean it when I say unplayable.

And if it doesn’t upset you to buy an utterly broken product, that’s fine. Tell everyone that it is not a problem for you , that’s your right. But grant me that I feel deceived and not respected as a customer. I saw all the interviews and I totally trusted them. But now I know that they shouldn’t have enjoyed themselfs so much in front of a camera, but should have worked on the code of this could-be awesome game. Instead they lost their enthusiasm, downgraded everything and threw it out.

If you like it to get loved in the rear, than that’s your buisness, but don’t demand that from everyone else.

(Dopaminergic) #514

This is such friggen garbage.

It’s wonderful how game developers can get away scot-free with completely ripping off consumers.

There’s no way a whole company full of paid “professionals” would’ve released this game without knowing this problem exists.

They had to have consciously decided they didn’t care about effing us over. It’s not like they had to prepare a playable demo or anything. Just let us buy a defective product and take our money and go party.

(.FROST.) #515

And one is a “whiner” when one is complaining about a broken product. How crazy is that? Everyone is so used to buy betas, they don’t even expect a game to be done and polished when it comes out.

For me AvP 3 is an example, how it should be done. I played it exactly 350 hours online since it came out and I can’t remember a real bug, not even clipping problems. People bitched about how the graphics weren’t that great, but I love em to this day.The textures are sharp, frames are infinite, species-balance is well done and it hasn’t frozen once.

There wasn’t a pre release promo overkill and the gam is “just” a tight MP game with a nice SP package to learn your species and that was it. The game came out, everyone was happy. 350 hours of fun for 30something bucks. Fair trade. that’s how it should be.

But after 350 hours I needed something different and there comes Brink in the play since every other shooter was to “realistic” and therefore boring for me. Team Fortress on the other hand is way to cartoony for my taste. I guess I have to continue my search for my next shooter. Any suggestions? Sci Fi and horror would be nice.

(farnsworth) #516

people, this is a freaking tech-help thread. though your complaints maybe totally valid and i can somewhat understand your anger, THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PLACE !
Go open up new threads in the right section, hell, open up ten or a hundred of them for all i care. but stop spamming threads where people try to figure out the problems and give constructive feedback, ffs

I’m right there with you, Frost. Let’s just hope the powers-that-be can pull it together and supply us with a product that matches, or at the very least approximates the hype. And yes, it will be a good while before I fall for game just because it claims to be “something new.”

(Nail) #518

I gotta agree with this

Well there’s a surprise!

(.FROST.) #520

@Nail

Only one last question. Do you just encounter some bugs and low fps, or are you utterly unable to play this game like me? I mean “unable” in the way of absolutely unplayable. Are you???
