[Renderer] Nvidia OpenGL driver has lost connection with the display driver

(Redh3lix) #221

I’m running a Quad core machine. I chucked the threadrenderer “2” CVar in my autoexec.cfg and haven’t had the OpenGL error in a fair while now. Fingers crossed.

Although I’m sure my machines capable of running the game of fairly high settings, I’ve lowered the graphical details a little and this may have helped as well.

(Ford) #222

My game crashes to desktop with no error within 5-10 minutes on all the game modes and maps I’ve tried. If I run it in windowed mode the window freezes instead and I have to close it through the task manager.

I have a GTS 250 using driver version 270.61 and Windows 7 64 bit. I tried reformatting to see if it made any difference and it still crashes with the same frequency.

(Insomnia80) #223

I got the error always on Resistance Day 7, 2-3seconds after start, putting threaded optimization off fixed it for first start, now on revive it happened again -.-

Edit2: now added VSync, twelve respawns, no crash…

(Kroktar) #224

Bump -_-…

(Junkie219) #225

The trick with the V-Sycn didn’t work… :frowning:

(Insomnia80) #226

Try to combine

threaded optimization off

and

V Sync on

also, update your DirectX via local update. I updated DX with Brink, he didn´t changed anything, but the Update from MS today copied some files, maybe that was the key…

Link for full update is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d

(Junkie219) #227

Threaded optimization off and V-Sync on didn’t work. I try later the DirectX. Thanks.

(acare84) #228

Suggestions in this thread not really works for this problem. We need a patch from Splash Damage.

(Ford) #229

When I turn thread optimization off instead of crashing to desktop my computer powers off instantly.

(RoadKillGrill) #230

I was going to write a review for Brink but feel I can’t write a fair review when I cant play a full level most the time without crashing. Suck this is still not addressed. Witcher 2 will take over as my game in a few days, I likely won’t revisit this one for a while.

(Broviet) #231

hahahahahahaha wow.

I go away for 3 days, come back, and this is STILL an issue?

Never again will Brain…I mean Splash Damage, get ANYWHERE near my money.

What an incredible waste of time.

(ZOor) #232

Bump!

Any updates on this?

Help! Had multiple crashes since loading Brink. Pretty random, could play for an hour or 10 minutes. Tried updating to latest NVIDIA drivers. System has been stable for months, never had these errors before. Makes it hard to get into the game, especially since I have to wait to join friends MP server only to crash out.

The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue. The application must close. Error code: 8

The release day I had no problems but after the first patch i have this problem (opengl error 8).

Config :

IntelCore 2 Duo E8400 3.00 GHz
Nvidia Asus GTX 460
Corsair 4 go ram
1920*1080
Seven 64 bit

theres another idea from the smilar problem with photoshop

set your power management to “Max. Performence”
where to find?
http://blog.enterpriseitplanet.com/green/blog/2009/01/how-to-manage-windows-7-power-settings.html

on the other side, disable your screensaver
screensaver setting: (None)
howto: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-your-screen-saver-on-or-off

another hint from the Minecraft forums

I changed one setting in the NVidia Control Panel, and the issue appears to have gone for good.

Attached is a screenshot. Basically, set 3D Settings -> Global Settings -> Threaded optimization to Off

(ZOor) #237

“Threaded optimization to Off”

if i disable this, my fps go down from 80 to 20 - 30. so this isnt a solution.

i hadn’t the opengl crash, but sometimes freezes, got it fixed by doing my own advice. (posted in another thread. modified for nvidia now)
i don’t know if you already tried it that way, i see no need for me to read the whole thread.

download the latest nvidia (atm: 270.61) drivers

download latest driver sweeper
http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/

wouldnt hurt to run the directx webupdater
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3
(no you won’t install the bing bar crap)

  • install driver sweeper (no need to run now!!!)
  • uninstall all nvidia software (Control Panel -> Programs and Featurs)
  • reboot (if you know how, start in save mode - it’s the best way)
    *run driver sweeper
  • choose everyting with “NVIDIA -” and “Clean” everything
  • reboot (start normal if you’ve been in safe mode)
  • install the nvidia drivers
  • reboot

(mR.Waffles) #239

This is getting ridiculous. We need another response from SD. I tried to get technical support from Bethesda and you can imagine how that went. Still no response, so I cannot even try to get a refund.

I actually did this exact thing, (with the exception of DX update) when I received my new GTX560Ti four days ago. I have played for about 6 hours in the last 48 in all modes at varying lengths and have not had the OpenGL crash again… yet. Performance issues still persist but thats another thing.

It does seem like the OpenGl is random, and just because I haven’t had it yet, certainly doesn’t mean I won’t, but trying the above advice couldn’t make things worse, I wouldn’t imagine.

(or it could be that somehow the GTX560 that has the same architecture as the 460 is somehow immune…but I would doubt it.)
