Reload cancels reload is broken?

(doxjq) #1

Sprinting with double time on my KE12, I just noticed that yeah, I can tap reload to cancel the reload animation, and it does cancel it fine, but it still gives me a full clip of ammo even though I cancel the reload.

So now I can shoot someone, tap reload twice and I instantly have a full clip of ammo. Infinite clip Hochfir ftw.

Anyone else having this, or is it just me?

Edit: Actually, this just happened with all mercs and all guns for me, as I just noticed here with the Smjuth in my last game.

@Dox
Works just fine for me. Here’s a clip of it. I used the A31 as it is my only card with double time, shouldn’t make a difference.

The first time, I run reload and press R immediately again and it cancels the reload without reloading.
The second time, I press R as soon as the ammo counter updates and I get a full magazine again.

I’m getting it with all mercs actually, double time or not.

Any reload cancels reload gives me a full clip?

(nokiII) #4

Only if you do it, when the ammo counter updates.
The animation is longer than the actual time the counter needs to update itself.
With that, you can shave off ~0.5-1s of a reload.

It doesn’t matter if you do it with reload cancels reload, sprint cancels reload or with weapon switchting, as long as your timing is correct.

I’ll make another webm with the timing a bit off, so you can see it better. My timing was kinda perfect in the first clip.

That’s a bug…it should look something like that:

(doxjq) #7

Mine is just instant. I can tap reload like 0.3s after I originally reload and it still gives me a full clip? You can see in that vid I clearly cancel it way before the counter updates.

Post that gif in the bugreports discord channel and tag naxxus, he likes that kind of stuff.

I wonder what it is? My mate has the same ping and computer as me basically but his is working properly.

(Supersneaky) #10

@Dox it still seems delayed though like a normal reload, can you fire again instantly? Btw test it with drilled?

(doxjq) #11

I’m not sure if I can fire instantly or not, sorry I just logged in on my phone as I’m out at the moment. But either way that’s still not right, because even if I can’t shoot straight away I can still reload silently.

(Supersneaky) #12

That’s true…

(doxjq) #13

I can fire before the ammo counter updates. It just updates it when the time catches up.

Can see here. Fire from 30 to 21, reload, reload cancel, fire again to 18 then it magically springs back up to 30.

Woah. Are you using the B52 1st gen with Double Time and Spares?

Seems like the new R-R cancel just reloads at the fastest cancel timing(not instantly but) without any effort. Very funny since you have to check how reload animation goes when you sprint cancel.

And R-R just messed up the whole thing. Wow. Just wow.

(doxjq) #15

No that’s the second gen fragger with tough, whatever one that is. It happens with every person. In the OP I thought it was just my double time proxy but it isn’t, it’s just anyone.

We have the same monitor. 0ms lag w/ 120hz yes please. Godly monitor.

(doxjq) #17

It really is a great monitor. I actually bought a 144hz AOC screen 2 years ago and moved it on because this screen just performs better. Most of the 144hz screens I can see tearing and stuff, I don’t get it. 2233rz and W2363D-PF etc, first gen 120hz monitors are great haha.

Not to be too much of a stickler but no LCD monitor has 0ms lag…at least when talking about the important lag metric…input lag. The number you see manufacturers put on the box has nothing to do with input lag and is instead the grey to grey measurement. So that grey to grey might be 1ms but the time to make that imagine change on your screen after you press a key has latency and depending on your monitor/TV it can be extremely low and it could also be extremely high. Displaylag.com (which is down for me right now) and a few other sites do this type of testing in case anybody is interested.

(doxjq) #19

Does online play use different mechanics? I can’t make this happen offline with any of the 3 default mercs. I would say that online maybe it’s a ping thing but my ping is always under 40ms, so I don’t think it’s lag.

It looks like the R-R Cancel skipped a step. It’s animation cancelling, but not reload cancelling. It’ll reset the animation and allow you to fire, but the reload is still happening in the background, and once it finishes the normal reload, your ammo gets filled back to top. This sounds like a pretty groundbreaking bug. It’s practically non-stop firing if you’re using the machine guns.
