Reconsider Female Characters!

(Dormamu) #101

If someone from Vivid is reading this thread… “porn actresses in a post-apocalyptic scene” is a VERYGODIDEA for your next movie

(tokamak) #102

I’ll just watch Planet Terror again. It’s a good idea if you want to make a really good bad game.

(acidrain) #103

You guys are having a stupid argument.

Anyway…

It would be really cool to have female characters in a game and have them not depicted as sexual objects. If any company was going to do that I would see that company being Splash Damage. Now I know SD isn’t going to put female characters into this game, but it would be cool in their next game.

I mean we have been asking for female characters since the ETQW beta! You guys are running out of excuses about why you didn’t put female characters into a game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well said, nice to see someone seeing things the way they are.

(tokamak) #105

So out of the millions of possibilities players can pick none of it will even be slightly sexy? Dream on.

(RoryGreen) #106

It isn’t really necessary to have female characters. It would be quite cool but I would rather have awesome male characters than okay characters of both genders.

(.Chris.) #107

It would be really cool that see a Brimstone release also.

(Senyin) #108

Exactly.
Like playing your own gender, the recognisable, is more enjoyable too…

And just for the record, I hate those cheap barbarella siliconepumped models.
No bikini, huge breast, big cleavage, show belly, nailpolish crap.

But simply female versions of the males, with the same customization options.
(scars, tattoo’s, eyepatch, mask, hoody’s ect)
In short, Tough looking chicks…‘serious’ models!
Please take notes for Brink 2

(tokamak) #109

Not at all. Playing a single female doesn’t require much explanation. Filling a battlefield with them does.

(Senyin) #110

So I can’t enjoy playing the recognisable, because it would
break your ‘immersion’.
That doesn’t sound right =)

(tokamak) #111

Playing male or female doesn’t ‘break immersion’ in any way other than it would break the immersion of reading a book or seeing a movie with a female character.

Even though I’m not a widowed mother, I could quite immerse myself in the movie Flight Plan.

(BioSnark) #112

Yes, that would be nice.

I find what Angseth is talking about with ut3 style women models that run around mysteriously missing huge chunks of armor to be a transparent sales gimmick to get male gamers thinking with their dicks. It’s more than slightly insulting to be marketed to like that. An example like half life 2 which is still targeted at males (presumably the majority of the market) but in a less insulting manner is a much better model to follow imo.

(Ragoo) #113

I wouldn’t mind playing an Orc character or someone with a fish-head as long as the gameplay is good.

(Reanimator) #114

Ragoo speaks the truth, also is it really realistic for there to be almost no females (besides npc’s)? I dont think women all of a sudden were eradicated from the face of the planet. (although I don’t really care if females get included in-game I just want great gameplay)

Now I’m confused. You wouldn’t mind a battlefield filled with females then? (in Brink)
Because I got the impression that would break immersion for you or make the game
at least less enjoyable.

I agree 100%

(acidrain) #116

There’s a difference between looking sexy and being depicted as a sexual object.

I’m not saying that they should all be ugly. Just that they don’t have to all have double D cup sizes in B cup bikini tops.

(Nail) #117

I see a slight problem with some of the Resistance customization, like the shirtless/full tattoo option

(darthmob) #118
I wouldn’t mind playing an Orc character or someone with a fish-head as long as the gameplay is good.
Maybe we will see some weird masks or clothes which make it possible. I want to wear a dinosaur shirt as a Resistance fighter!

(Nail) #119

kapok vest and oven mitts for true “badass” look

Would you agree then, that the FROG soldiers from Metal Gear Solid 4 break the immersion of the game since its supposed to be male dominated and their actually female?

Their particularly interesting because their an all female squad, and they have some great athletic reflexes and expertise in a variety of weaponry.

Other than that, they don’t need any sort of justification to be in the game, why would they? its a game, they can make whatever they want with it even if it doesn’t makes sense.

Its part of their creativity and telling their story, do we really need all shooters to have males only? and when there are females they need a justification in order to be considered in a game? its pretty ridiculous.

Not only that, but their playable in Metal Gear Online as well, which thankfully is an exception when it comes to including female characters in a shooter.

Am I the only one here who has some sort of logic when it comes to this? look at the picture above, besides the tight latex armor shes wearing doesn’t she looks badass? if I had a PS3 and that game I would play as one.
Its not a matter of being a perv for pixels, its a matter that since we play as males in pretty much every game, particularly shooters, its nice to have an option here and there. Playing as Rambo gets old, I wanna play as the Femme Nikita for once.

And I understand if you wouldn’t want them in the game tokamak, but please don’t try to use real life as an explanation as to why they wouldn’t make sense in a game.
