Reconsider Female Characters!

(timestart) #61

Excellent question, I have no idea. All seems quite pointless to me. Still I’d be interested to see how much of an advantage ‘camouflaging’ your character brings, to fit with the general theme of the map.

we could all just use generic foot soldiers as our characters in blue and red since were all looking down the barrel of a gun.

Good idea - they stand out against the environments we’ve seen so far in the game and make it very easy to identify a player’s team and class.

I say leave the role playing in RPGs and keep FPS about the shooting.

(ThunderWank) #62

Ya man damn RPGSSS ruinin’ ma shooters.
I mean RSVEGAS dat game was terrible cuz you could pick wut yer guy looked lyke.

Honestly I don’t think the ability to customize your character qualifies the game as an RPG. Not even close. It in no way detracts from the game so why would they take it out when they’ve already spent development time on it?

(Nail) #63

Some men have a different way of connecting to their “female side” if there is such a thing

I understand the desire for more character customization, but for me it’s not worth the development time and resource cost. I wish all shooters had full face helmets and gloves to elleviate the whole gender/race aspect, just use vocalizations

(Nail) #64

never see this in sports games, Imagine replacing a 280 lb. defensive lineman with a 180 lb. just for the look

(Senyin) #65

Sure, gameplay above all, 100% agreed.
But for me this is purely a Brink thing.
It’s different with Brink because the character
you create sticks with you afaik.

I plan to play it a loooong time hopefully and
I dont wanne be stuck with a male.
In other FPS’s, I dont care. I often prefer to play males in fact.

Oops, overlooked that completely… :o

(timestart) #66

I think you’re just trying to waste my time with that post, well good luck because my time is worthless!

What’s RSVEGAS? Rainbow Six Vegas? Can’t comment on how good (or otherwise) that game was having never played it. Given that Olivier Leonardi worked on it before joining SD and Brink’s colourful art direction I’m assuming it involved rainbows somehow… and Vegas.

Same reasons they’d take out any other feature - it’s not technically possible, too slow or just isn’t fun.

(ThunderWank) #67

But that isn’t the case.
This thread is a testament to how big the allure of character customization is in the game.

(timestart) #68
But that isn’t the case.

No, it isn’t. So I don’t expect them to remove it. Therefore I must whine about it from now until I find something else I don’t like about the game.

(ThunderWank) #69

Whine about the pistol and how slowly it shoots.
That’s my plan.

(Nail) #70
Also, you’d practically double up on animation (women move noticeably differently to men) doubling up on the production of animations, and the memory footprint for that.

There’s a lot of things you don’t consider at first.
I’d rather the time and money be spent on the game play than spent on satisfying some random urge.

(ThunderWank) #71

He’s right…I mean that what the internet’s for.

Rule 34.

(Rumble) #72

Yes, when the game’s gonna be released, we all will forget this “lack” of females. There’s a large variety of customizations afaik, not all FPS give that. With or without females characters, the game will be awesome.

(SPC. Angseth) #73

Then why are you posting in this thread?

Its pretty obvious you would care if you were forced to play a female considering your statement in your comment.

What exactly does liking to play as a female have to do with one’s gender in real life? zero.

Would I say that everyone that plays shooters wants to be a soldier in real life? that would be absurd and pretty ignorant to say.

So please don’t jump into conclusions, a lot of other male gamers would react pretty immaturely if they had to play as a female character, I know, because if they really didn’t care they wouldn’t make comments like yours.

I had the exact same discussion with people over the Xbox forums on the issue of adding a female COG to Gears of War, their reaction? the same as yours and others who have posted here.

(Nail) #74

As Bezzy has stated, adding more animations would double the animation development time and cost an equivalent memory footprint loss, I’d rather the resource be allocated to game play myself. I prefer one character model with full face helmet and gloves with different (maybe your own) vocalizations, solves gender and race problems, but that ain’t going to happen either.

The reason there are no female models is the cost in development and resources, not 'cause they don’t like girls.

(BioSnark) #75

Why did you have the I don’t care option in the poll? By making this thread you’re soliciting feedback on the issue and you have to take it at face value and not immature or an attack on you if people don’t agree with you. I don’t care either and I wouldn’t care if we were playing females, cyborgs or tapirs as long as it’s consistent with the setting and doesn’t harm gameplay.

(tokamak) #76

I still think the poll question is wrong. The question should be. Would you rather have female models instead of extra maps?

(Bezzy) #77

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.The people responsible for levels and gameplay are not the people responsible for the character customization assets. Not having female characters doesn’t get us extra time for other things. If only!

(system) #78

sure, one map is enough, what we need is boobs…

Honestly, this is getting ridiculous, female models are a nice gimmick, but nothing that increases the games quality, so get over it.

Are you serious with this post? Dude, look up the game SOF2, we all play with male & female character and really didn’t care because the gameplay was fun. Dude, you need professional help. Seems like you have sort of gender issue if you’re running around all these forum demanding developers to include woman in their games. Get over it dude, it is not going to happen in Brink as per SD which most of agree that the time is better spent on gameplay. Asked yourself this question while you’re in therapy, if majority gamers disagree with me at something that is so insignificant in the FPS genre. Why is it that I can’t get over it.

PS: You’re an example of what is wrong with today gaming industry. Publisher releasing incomplete games, full of bugs, gameplay don’t work but oh yah, we got some nice and new, woman character or viel power.

Can the forum admin please lock this ridiculous thread?

No need for the personal attacks.

Aye but it’s part of the same budget right?
