Reconsider Female Characters!

(Metal-Geo) #221

Exclusive Pre-Order Lingerie?

I don’t see how this could possibly go wrong.

(tokamak) #222

The reason we’re not having female character models is BECAUSE making the clothing for them would require too much resources.

(signofzeta) #223

woah, woah, woah, so you are saying that I can’t make my character look like a Chippendale’s dancer? I can’t make him wear tight pants and look like a fairy?

So this means that all of the game’s characters are heterosexual males?

But I will have to see the wardrobe first. I’m sure with whatever they have, I could make my character look like a chippendale’s dancer with a fairy costume, not like there’s anything wrong with that.

But aside from that, will there be bonus costumes? Like a tapir outfit?

(SockDog) #224

Because homosexuals males only wear women’s clothes?

But aside from that, will there be bonus costumes? Like a tapir outfit?

Asked for and bloody better be in the collectors edition.

I meant stereotypical homosexuals who act like the opposite gender. I could have just said crossdresser, but that be wronger than something where there is nothing wrong with that.

But still, adding non combat clothing just for the laugh would be cool, but impractical.

Converting male constumes to a female model is still lots of work, and would potentially take up more memory, depending on how it’s done.

Would we like them? Of course! Viva la difference! Unfortunately, as already stated, we have a memory budget, time limit, and other factors which hold us back from making female characters.

Also: Crossdressers aren’t necessarily gay. Gays rarely cross dress. Stop talking.

Maybe some low price pack with new caracter model wouyld be great… I mean if the game sells well, then some lowprices mappack/modelpack are the way to go…

Peace

Lmfao. Two words: Eddie Izzard. Man, hottest cross-dressing straight dude ever. Along with The Rock (he’s straight, right?).

Anyway, to clarify, I get why SD doesn’t include it. I’m also very aware that my game purchases means zilch. I have no beef with SD. If it makes sig feel better, I’m also refusing to buy other games without female customization (where customization is already available) and Rockstar games. Now them, I have a serious beef with. Horrifyingly bad PS3 support on GTA IV. Couldn’t even be bothered to fix minor glitches. Fallout 3 (with its hilarious glitching) has better support than GTA IV, and yet GTA IV outsold Fallout 3 by almost 3x the amount (at least on consoles). Ridiculous.

But yeah, I’ll buy if female mods become DLC. I’d be, if angrily, willing to pay extra for my desires. Just like I pay extra for jeans with less fabric than a man’s simply because they fit somewhat better. sigh

Saying that you won’t buy Brink, not because of the Females avatars missing part, but then completely reversing your answer to the conclusion that you wont buy Brink because it does not have Female avatars in it.
Make up your mind already.
Also don’t come talking about The Developers not listening to our wishes. Plenty of that was going on with Quake Wars.

Not buying Brink because it is missing Females is strange if not mind blowing. I myself would like to have them too in the game, but there won’t be, tough luck? I don’t think so because we get a lot more customizes for our Male characters.

I’m rejecting an industry standard, not a single game. And you missed tone. I’m not refusing to buy the game because it alone has no female customization. I don’t think female avatars are the end-all, be-all to my enjoyment of a game. I’m refusing to buy it because it is standard practice for games to be male-only in a variety of ways, and it impacts my enjoyment of a game (and also because I think it impacts how female gamers are treated by their male counterparts). So I’m asking for maximum enjoyment of a $60 product, instead of 80%-90% enjoyment. I could make an analogy here involving a something that goes vroom and half-dead batteries, but it’d probably go over some people’s heads.

And sig, you have such class. I thought the way you introduced rape into the conversation was simply genius. And just like many chicks who became Viking plunder, I shall refrain from crying too hard about something that happens to all of us. Even the ones who were clubbed over the head first and don’t remember anything about Vikings.

Bugging Infinity Ward? They make games with RPG-elements now? And really, wouldn’t that be like going up to the NFL head and asking for chick football players? Man, the testosterone alone might kill me before I got the words out.

Boycotts don’t have to succeed in shutting down sales of a product. These days, with globalization and mass market selling, that is almost entirely doomed to fail, even with thousands of people boycotting. I boycott because I can, because I have an opinion I want to be considered and because I doubt that just having an opinion will make it heard. My money is worth more than my opinion.

Senyin has a point. I suspect women spend more time on customization than men. At least, that was my experience with LittleBigPlanet. And no, I couldn’t tell you why beyond that it has nothing to do with shopping. Games with RPG elements generally have higher numbers of female players than straight-up FPS games anyway. I suspect the whole thing has something to do with immersive experiences. Maybe because we’re somewhat less visual about the world, it takes a bit more oomph to get us to love a visual medium like video games. I gotta say, strong customization generally does make me play a game longer. Though if I create a male avatar, I tend to spend a 10th of time on and care less. shrugs A lot of my friends would find that pretty funny, given how mannish my personality is at times. (Truth, my guy friends are seriously surprised that I cried over the last David Tennant-Doctor Who episode. “You cry?”)

(tokamak) #229

Are you also rejecting Doctor Who’s industry standard? That’s the 11th male regeneration in a row.

(Reanimator) #230

argumentum ad antiquitatem

(tokamak) #231

On the contrary actually.
I don’t have to tell them, they know. That’s why women don’t compete against men
example, World Track records,

Men:

100 Metres 9.58
200 Metres 19.19
400 Metres 43.18
800 Metres 1:41.11
1000 Metres 2:11.96
1500 Metres 3:26.00
One Mile 3:43.13
2000 Metres 4:44.79
3000 Metres 7:20.67
5000 Metres 12:37.35

Women:

100 Metres 10.49
200 Metres 21.34
400 Metres 47.60
800 Metres 1:53.28
1000 Metres 2:28.98
1500 Metres 3:50.46
One Mile 4:12.56
2000 Metres 5:25.36
3000 Metres 8:06.11
5000 Metres 14:11.15

it’s the same with swimming
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_world_records_in_swimming
I didnt do some research cuz I’m a lazy ass, but dont these “difference” tend to get shorter with time? I mean it was more drastic (men/women’s time at 100m) in 1950 than now, and as brink is supposed to be in a near future, trained female will (can) prolly be as strong and fast as men, that was one of my point I didnt make clear tho. Timescale is teh key here

Peace

(tokamak) #233

Not really, the female build is always at a disadvantage when running. If a woman wants to be equal she’ll need to have some serious hormone defect since birth.

Anyway, it’s bullshit anyway, just because there’s some difference between the top-athletes doesn’t mean there has to be one in a friggin video game.

(Exedore) #234

As another person who ‘boycotts’ all sorts of products and companies based on strange things called ‘principles’, don’t sell yourself short.

Thanks for expressing your views so intelligently and staying above some of the lows this thread has sunk to, it’s where any meaningful change starts. I see middleware as a potential solution for this annoying game industry problem, but nobody is going to think of that as a viable venture unless people are vocal about demanding change.

(Szakalot) #235

In short:

Would be a nice addition, but nothing I would chose over any kind of a gameplay polish.

(signofzeta) #236

Hello, crossdressing anyone? And why can’t I make my character looks like a chippendale’s dancer in a tutu?

Another thing is, where is the tapir costume?

And I see that profane still didn’t understand the deeper meaning in my viking post. And to be really vocal about the female avatar thing, one must actually do work to voice their opinion, and not simply a boycott and a forum post. How do you think women’s rights activists got what they wanted? By posting in forum, and not living in certain countries?

Converting people who hated having female avatars in games to having them, already shows you have power, and that also would convince Splash Damage of change. Right now, none of us are converted yet.

Why do people with picket signs prowl the streets? And when you see such people with picket signs, how many people are there?

How did you think the FLQ crisis happened? By French-Canadians not living in Canada, and whining in forum posts saying that Quebec should be a separate country?

And the whole terrorism thing. If terrorists were like profane, the world would be more peaceful. They are going to go to forums posting how much they hate americans, and they are not even remotely going to step foot in american soil, and fly into american airspace.

(iwound) #237

they already look a bit girly anyway.

(Apples) #238

I really cant see how ppl can “hate female avatar in game”, I understand that its not a top priority, but hating female avatar??? Cmon…

As Szak mentioned the gameplay is allways first, but as brink will be rpg’ish with all the customizable content, they could increase the playerbase just by having some downloadable modelpack and mappack. Just my opinion OFC I’m not a game manager…

peace

(Shiv) #239

make them androgynous then give them clothes that are of each gender and voila.

just like square

(.Chris.) #240

Shiv likes to wear corsets and would very much like to continue doing so with his brink character I think.
