I’m still curious what people think about the ET sniper type of mechanic. You have a bolt action rifle in hip fire that has very high accuracy/low rof and kills in around 2 headshots or 3 body shots for example. The weapon only becomes a sniper when scoped in, effectively increasing the damage output. What I really like about this concept in general is that it doesn’t limit/encourage the sniper rifle or class using it to just camp behind the front line. I strongly suggest that we give this some thought if possible because it really solves a lot of issues.

I have to say it’s not the mechanic I’m used to or wan’t by just my personal preference.
The thing is if they are doing the animation so that when the scope hits yo face it’s ready to go. I understood that there will still be more delay but it’s much more clearer when you can fire accurately. On first thought this sounds good and I’d like to test it.
One thing I think could work is give the deagle option to vassili as a secondary so it would work closer to what you mentioned while leaving the sniper mechanics closer what they are now. Meaning: different damages when firing from hip or scoped.

the sniper in ET was terribly efficient and easy to use at long range, I can remember doing sprees of 20 or 30 kills if I had enough ammo resupplies. But from close range I barely never killed anyone though … that’s why I wish that the recon’s snipe is a good middle point between these two extremes.

And from the competition point of view, it has to get fast scope, but usually you have time to scope when you are out of combat range, as you are supposed to be 3/4 of the time. Personally I found that the current scoping system is working fine.

So basically unscoped it would become a medics Deagle but with much lower RoF? Its a decent idea because a slow firing Deagle equivalent wouldnt be viable to use in gun fights, but it would give the recon a chance if someone jumped them up close to have a quick sniper shot then switch to machine gun.

Imho it has to be more powerful than deagle when unscoped (due to lower RoF).
I don’t get it why making unscoped damage any different from scoped? Dunno for sure but was the ETQW sniper rifle unscoped damage lower than if scoped?
The balance of sniper rifle in ETQW was good scoped/unscoped, the problem was quickscope abuse, not unscoped shooting itself.

Iirc the unscoped damage was ever so slightly less (bar headshots, which would kill). Have to agree with the qs abuse (even though I was a party in it).
