Reasonably priced, reliable ET server hosts?

(Incognito) #1

I have been playing ET for only a few days but I used to play RTCW heavily. My previous RTCW server host is now out of business (man their prices were great :/) but I am now looking for an ET server host.

I’m not looking for anything fancy - all I ask for is good/excellent pings for Europeans (therefore, Europe-based server), ET supported, 24/7 FTP access, plenty of space for ET maps (current and future) and anywhere between 16 and 22 slots for either private or public.

I have not decided whether to go for public or private yet because it’s really decided by the price. It seems that because ET is a relatively new game, not that many good server hosts offer it and those who do, charge through the nose.

Any recommendations? (I can’t host my own server because I don’t have the connection :().

Thanks for any and all help,
Incog.

I go through VSK for my RtCW server.

They are located in St Louis. But me being from the east coast, I ping in around 40.

When you know a little bit LINUX you can rent a LINUX-server and do all the rest on your own (installing and configuring ET via Telnet etc.). A good offer is this (German provider). It offers you a server with 150GByte traffic included for EUR 45,- per month (149 Euro setup fee). That should be enough for a server with 16 players (assuming it isn’t full 24 hours a day).

Coached servers (where some kind of Guru does all the tricky things for you) are more expensive and will usually paid per slot. I think you have to pay something around 5 Euros per slot, so for a 16 players server you will end up with 5*16=80 Euros per month. On the other hand on coached servers the entire traffic is already included.

A provider from the US I know is East Coast Gaming Network. We had a RtCW server there (but they also offer ET servers) and the pings were always good and the service was very good (the admins are RtCW players themself!).

Hi,
does anyone know of any good, cheap UK/Europe ET hosts. The only one’s I’ve seen so far are jolt and barrysworld and they seem a bit expensive to me :frowning: I did look at the German site mentioned above but web pages aren’t covered in my German For Dummies phrasebook!

Thanks in advance

This was just an example. You should search for LINUX-servers in your own country (this will simplify some things, e.g. language or payment). The most important thing is the included traffic. You usually have to pay (alot) for extra traffic above that. Visit this thread on how much traffic an ET-server can cause.

On coached servers all traffic is already included, if you use it or not. So they can be much cheaper when running a good attended ET-server.

If you have difficults finding offers for LINUX servers, then search WebCrawler for the keywords “dedicated”, “LINUX” and “server”. Maybe you have to add the name of your country.

I could care less if its windows or linux but thanks for the links

Most important to me is that they let me go up to sv_maxrate 25000. Some of the ‘coached’ servers that I played on for RTCW had it capped at 7000.

www.rackshack.net

I have the $399/month dual xeon 2ghz piece which gives me unmetered 10mbps access, so I run 30 clients at 25000 maxrate easily

Im giving serious consideration to starting a game hosting company. Drop me a private message with your requirements, and Ill see what I can do

P.S. One thing is for sure, I will beat any Barrysworld / Jolt etc Price.
