Reason to win?

(SteelMailbox) #1

So lately I thought about this subject. For the longest time I was the guy screaming at my teammates to play the damn objective in pubs, but lately I understood, there is no reason to win.
You don’t get anything for winning (except the 500 credit award but that is a one time thing) so why even try?
I ain’t saying that from now on you should only play assault mercs and just kill everyone and not giving a flying fuck about the objective but this is more of a cry for a reward for winning.

Because if you start questioning why you even want to win, you will soon be asking yourself why you are even playing at all.
The whole point of a competitive game is trying to win. Just going for a good K/D-ratio and ignoring the objectives is selfish and destroys the fun for the rest of your team. If you don’t want to support the team, you should find a singleplayer game that suits you better.

I am not talking about only comp matches, I am more talking about pubs.

The reason I play DB over all of the other FPS games in the world is because I like the objective. Sure, COD has Search and Destroy, but nobody actually goes for the objective. When I first played DB, I was surprised everyone was going for the objective. Please don’t ruin it for me >_<

So was I. This game is about 2 teams fighting for victory. That’s competitive, right?

BECAUSE YOU JUST GOTTA DO IT, JUST DO IT, MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.

So is any other game but the fact there is no real reward can catch up to people and they will say “Dude fuck this”

(kAndyREW) #8

i seriously think they should introduce cosmetic rewards for winning X # of matches with Y mercs at Z mode. or something.

(OmaGretel) #9

Giving out rewards for winning would just make you more angry if you have another one of those idiot teams, because “they ruined your match and cost you the reward”.
Seriously though, this is a game and should be played for fun not for some meaningless reward.

(SereneFlight) #10

Reason? Because most people rather win than lose.

Personally I just want a good game instead 3 minutes of boring slaughterfest or banging your head to a brick wall. A game which forces everybody to be on their toes the whole time without one team stomping on another without a resistance.
However, my pants would be on fire if I said it’s not slightly more satisfying if my team won the good game.

Why even get up in the morning?

(Amerika) #12

You play to entertain yourself and have fun…I think that is universal for everyone. Winning, however, isn’t a requirement for everyone. I personally get a lot of enjoyment out of winning so I always try because it’s part of who I am. Yet I know other people who simply like to play, pass time, have fun/hilarious things happen and that makes them happy. If they win, cool, and if they lose it’s no big deal as long as the loss was fun. So really it just kind of depends on what kind of person you are and how much you value all the different aspects that have us play Dirty Bomb together.

Also, I tend to play assault mercs and try to kill everyone because it’s actually the best way for me to consistently win. If I kill 3-4 people per spawn wave it alleviates a lot of pressure on the rest of the team. So don’t bag on people who do that!!

(Litego) #13

Had a funny moment once where there was this guy on our team constantly complaining about lack of support when he was trying to do the objective. Eventually he said fuck it and went sniper, shortly after we won the game. Because now we were 5 people playing instead of 4 players and a dead guy.

Nah, playing only to win is too frustrating. Play to shit on people, and in between the shitting on, when you have time, do the side mission aka the objective. That’s what I do. A team loss isn’t a personal loss if you’re top scoring/killing ;). Take it as a win however you can.

(Nail) #14

while next map loads, screen should show both teams with winning team shouting “neener neener” at the losers

(Backuplight) #15

Modern gamers, where they no longer play for fun, they play to be rewarded for having fun. Ya, OK.

(x3H) #16

Reason to win? My God, just have fun. Games are supposed to be fun, do not expect a BIG MLG $$$ reward just from playing Pubs. -_-

(Lumi) #17

I agree that there is no reason currently as to why one would want to win. Unless as defence: to extend the game time and increase the credits won. Which in turn makes you want to lose on the offense. Well. The trick being of doing just enough objectives to keep the timer going, but not winning.

Actually, the only thing making people do anything right now are the missions and that’s it.

(Nail) #18

“a reason to win” ?

WTF, it’s a video game, you play, you are entertained, winning releases endorphins

ya want a reason to win, play russian roulette

I used to play for winning but now, win or lose, if the the game gets clutched with both teams trying their best to paly objective, I win. That’s just how I feel about it. I WIN… no matter the outcome. Sadly, most games I play are pretty lop sided and the the match becomes predictable 5 minutes into the game, so most of the time, it’s a loss for me. But then, sometimes, I’m wrong.
