After that it all work very well again! I love play costum maps for RTCW and that works very well. Then, the BIG THEN…, approx. a week ago I downloaded the map “Liner” and now nothing works. I tried to repatch the program, I even uninstalled the whole RTCW and installed it again and still I dosen’t work! It installs fine, I dubble click one the icon, the program starts, the screen turns dark then beige and THEN there’s a message that the “wolf.exe” has come accros some problem and I’m asked if I like to send a failiour report…

PLEASE, I really need help on this one…

I’m not sure this is the best venue for your question as SD didn’t make the Wild West mod or RtCW. Others can probably give you more insight but here’s something…

I installed the Wild West mod and had no problems with my RtCW installation. I don’t recall how it all worked but there should be a way of selecting the mod and deselecting it to run when you start RtCW. My install defaulted to vanilla RtCW but the servers running the wild west mod would show up in the server browser and the mod would load automatically if I selected one of them.

Assuming you haven’t mangled your registry you should be able to uninstall RtCW. Then delete the related folders. You will lose all of your config files and so forth. Save maps in a different folder if you wanna hang on to them. Then do your reinstall.

Good luck.

Hi,

Your problem with WildWest sounds like you installed to the main folder
rather than directly to your RtCW folder, this is a common mistake when
players don’t read the instructions
You could have asked at our forums for help:

Version1.5 will come with a fool-proof installer, so this will be the end
of such problems

Line, is a Sp mod, and the author suggests that you overwrite the
standars SP dll’s with the modded ones… something I feel is very bad
practice, and indeed have had discussions about it.

A fool-proof method of installing SP mods is to move the standard sp dll’s
“cgamex86.dll”, “qagamex86.dll” & “uix86.dll” from the root RtCW folder
to main, then put the modded dlls in the mods folder, this way vanilla
SP works fine, and so do any Sp mods.

NOTE: in Linux, this is already the case, as the SP .so files are installed
to the main directory by default.

Like Dawg says, to completely clean you installation, copy any custom
maps you have to a safe folder, uninstall RtCW, then delete the
remaining files & folders in your RtCW directory, then re-install…
this should solve you current problems.

Hello!

I’ve copied all my copied all my custom
maps to a safe folder, then I uninstalled RTCW as it should be, (start meny -> programs -> games -> RTCW -> uninstall) and after that I manually deleted all remaining files & folders. Then I re-installed RTCW (even in a folder with a new name…) and finaly I copied back all my old custom maps…

Still though, the program just won’t load. I dubble click on the RTCW desktop icon and after just a few seconds everything just freezes and I’m asked if I’d like to send an error report…

Why? What files has liner created that is not deleted?
How do I find them so I can remove them forever??? (AND I REALLY MEAN FOREVER!!!)

I NEED HELP ON THIS ONE…

out of interest, does it run ok before you copy your custom maps back ?

If it does then I suspect you have a problem with one of your custom pk3’s

Try moving them all, and run wolf, if it works ok, move them back 1 at a time until
you get problems

Remember when running a local non-dedicated server with lots of
pk3’s in your main folder, you will get the Wolf.exe “too many pk3’s”
bug which has plagued us all for a very long time.
This bug will cause your game to crash.

there are more people who have had problems with liner i had that to i stored the other maps and deleted liner then uninstalled it then deleted the map then reinstalled the entire thing then it worked just fine for me they say liner contains a virus so after this run a virus scan just in case

mm, well I did the linux compile for him, and the map ran fine, after I
moved the SP dll’s into the main folder (as I described above)

Liner is a great SP level IMHO…
