Really bad players?

(Kendle) #1

Yesterday, on the Campaign server in my sig, the map was FuelDump and an Allied player was being accused of TK’ing. So I went spec to check him out. He was killing a few team-mates, but I concluded he wasn’t doing it deliberately, he was just a truly terrible player!

As I was spec’ing him, and jumping about from player to player observing some of the others, it struck me that there were some really, really bad players on the servers.

Now, I’m not one to go in for “noob” bashing, I’d certainly never use the word as an insult on server, but some of these guys were so bad I can’t imagine they’d ever played a FPS game before.

Things like the guy accused of TK’ing trying to use an MG42 emplacement. He approaches from behind, turns to face the gun, overshoots, turns back, overshoots, and takes several attempts just to line himself up with the gun. I can only assume he was either using a Gamepad or he was using his movement keys to “turn” left and right, as opposed to “strafe”.

I noticed 2 or 3 others displaying the same behaviour. Getting into firefights and not getting even a single shot anywhere near target before getting killed. Players roaming around parts of the map where nothing was happening, players obviously using the mouse wheel to scroll through weapons, players seemingly completely unaware of other players on the server and just walking into enemy fire and dying without even getting a shot off.

We often argue about how “good” some players are, with the word “cheat” being used a little too often, but what about the really bad players. Are there really that many players out there, who are capable of joining a mulit-player online gaming server, and give themselves names like “elite-killer” (albeit in white), and yet not have a clue how to do basic things like move and shoot?

Any comedy / bad player moments you’d like to share with us? Get it off your chest here rather than abusing them on server!

Well, there are a certain number of people who let their 4 year old sit down and play. There are also those who play in extreme states of intoxication

Given that ET is free, there are probably also some people who never played FPSs before, as well as people trying to play it on system which are REALLY sub par. A 1 FPS, it is probably hard to get on a mounted gun.

And yes, I have seen them and wondered… :moo:

The worse thing I can ever remember doing was joining a game midway
through a map,the map ended and went onto the next one,So we all spawned in the hut and I killed everybody as you do whilst waiting for the game to start proper…They had got rid of the wait time…
ding… kick kerunch for tking…Luckily I managed to get my excuse in and they forgave me.Though it is funny watching some players like the player standing on a mine and shooting it ? or shooting dynamite etc.And when you try to offer help like weve moved on from that part of the map they ignore you. :frowning:

oh this was hilarious.

After some fierce fighting and Axis on my tail, I managed to get the plant at the South Anti Tank Gun on Oasis. I was killed like within 5 seconds of planting, but I wasn’t gibbed. about 5-10 seconds after I died, I see an eng walk into the room. But holy cow! He was scrolling through his weapons back and forth like an idiot. In fact, he even accidently dropped dyno on top of my body. An Axis Medic who was watching all this eventually just shot him and TK’ed him (i think he deserved it though), and a 2nd Eng came to disarm, but it was too late.

he had almost 20 seconds to disarm that dyno, but he spent all his timing scrolling.

Yup, I’ve seen those kinds of behaviour too at times. I don’t really have any specific stories to share (would have to think about that) but indeed it’s weird to see guys walking all over the map doing absolutely nothing. Occasionally you see them taking out their knife and poking it at a command post or mounted machine gun, or killing teammates a couple of times before they realize it’s not a ‘kill everyone else’ type of game. I did see a guy recently though, come to think of it, while playing Oasis, who was a cvops. He had a uniform and had gotten behind enemy lines (allies had taken old city and he had somehow wandered beyond there and to the 1st allied spawn), where he just remained for practically the full twenty minutes that the game still lasted. He walked around the place and all, scrolling through weapons and shooting at nothing, throwing his satchels at nothing and not detonating them, all the while in uniform. And all that for a good 20 minutes :???:

LOL something similer happend to me on Battery,I planted the dyamite and was killed by an engineer with a rifle nade, so there I was waiting for "
Dynamite disarmed " but he decides to go back up the ladder lmao.

I see a lot of FieldOps getting themselves killed because they use the mouse wheel to find ammo packs, and they always stand face to face with the one they intend to give the packs. Panzer bait!

Once upon a time… I played Engie on Radar in a 4v4 game and got the radar parts back to Allied spawn. Since I was down to 10-15 health I /killed, but this guy who had been following me picked up the parts. Fine, we head for the truck, but then he ran right by it and stayed at the Axis door on the right side of the main gate. :???: I had to TK him to win the game, but at least this newbie didn’t have an attitude (I apologised, and he said he was sorry he didn’t know what to do)…

ET was my first FPS game I’d ever played. Back in June or so I began playing. I was pretty bad. So yeah, I think that fact that ET is free is bringing in people who never normally played FPS games.

Been a long while since I played with noobs…no good stories are coming to mind. :frowning:

I guess there are all sorts out there, including the kid who’s using his Dad’s PC for the first time and has “stumbled” onto an ET server, or the guy who’s just installed it off a magazine cover disk and hasn’t even the first clue what to do, but I must admit to not really noticing these type players until yesterday.

When I first started playing RTCW nearly 2 years ago, I was so bad I cringe at the mere thought. But at least I knew how to move and shoot, even if I was (am!) a crap shot. The player I saw yesterday didn’t appear to have even a basic command of mouse / keyboard usage. Maybe it was some 4-year old after all, which begs the question, where were his/her parents? My boy is 9 in 2 weeks and I won’t let him near multiplayer yet. Halo, with it’s comic-book alien enemies, is as far as he goes.

I’m starting to get paranoid now.I beginning to wonder was it me that was playing like that

I remember on goldrush, I noticed someone walking into the wall, the same wall, several times. I went spectator and just watched. They shoot the wall, stab the wall, and sooner or later gernade the wall. They die, it starts all over again. It was really funny. They run without the mouse at all, run into the wall, sometimes makes it to the outside only to hit a wall. Then when stuck, move the mouse a little and shoot the crap out of the wall. And no reloading either. It was safe to assume someone left their game running and the 4-5 year old wanted to “play”.

(puubert) #12

I’ve never seen anything as bad as that, but I’ve seen the people who wander around aimlessly looking for stuff to do, or the guy who stands in the room/hallway/area next to the current firefight, ready to storm in once the guns die down. You know the ones, he’ll poke his nose out “ohhhh guns” and ducks back in.

Well, my first fps online was rtcw. I had to beg my dad to buy it, since i was 11/12. But i’ve never been a real bad player ;). I practiced and practiced… After a few days i was able to beat up some guys, and after a while i usually was the best player of the server. (Don’t wanna be, how you say in english?). Anyway, since ET is a free game, it gives new players the chance to try a online game, without having to pay for it. This is why their are so many noobs ;), not saying that noobs are bad, they just aren’t good :stuck_out_tongue: . ET is some sort of product, wich help other products. I mean, if the noobs and good players like this game, they got more chance to buy another fps then if they never played one ;). Personnaly i think this is one of the reasons ET was released for free

That I can agree to. Playing ET got me to try (and buy) Battlefield 1942, buy Call of Duty, actually give UT2k3 a try, etc.

It is funny though how clueless people can be. It’s not like we’re playing Europa Universalis or some hex based wargame.

(Jahuu) #15

And those who do something at the same time. (Drink, eat, scroll through a cartoon magazine, listen to music and so on.)

And those who suffer from lag or bad computer.

But there also is a small number of people unable to play 3d shooters. They etiher have terrible reflecses or they are a drooling mass of human-wannabe.

I have never met the latter in person, but you can call me a believer.

(MadMattUK) #16

Too many moments to list ( some of mine spring to mind, especially rifle 'nade incidents! ), but was wondering, did anyone actually try to help some of these poor souls?. Nothing like helping a n00bie accomplish
an objective against some ET ‘elite’…

(lennyballa) #17

I always explain what to do to noobs :). I really should create some binds for it :p.

(schmeisser) #18

I must admit, I did the scroll wheel thing first time i played medic, trying to dole out some health packs. Some guy got so pissed off he TK’d me. I still fumble for dymamite or pliers occasionally as Engineer. I change classes several times during a game to whatever seems to be in need. I think I learn faster overall, but it can get confusing.

My Noob advice: “First, Do No Harm”.

(Clegg) #19

I am not a great ET player, and am relatively new to FPS games in general. Last night I was on a server and there was this one guy who kept pacing along the walls, scrolling through weapons and jumping. He did this on and off for 2-3 maps. I would usually find him close to our spawn point pacing around, jumping up and down and bumping into walls. Then he would take off and play the game only to go back to bumping into walls after being fragged. The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced he was looking for secret tunnels and treasure.

(The_Jesus_Zeppelin) #20

i still look like a noob most fo the time, the only thing that makes me look liek ive played the game before is the little expierience i do have, i dont have any skill at all. :bored:
