Really Bad Perfromace Problems

(Redqueen) #1

Athlon Barton running at 2.1 GHZ
Geforce 4 4500 w/ latest drivers
756MB Ram

Running with details on medium, biliniar, no dynamic lighting and at a res of 1280.

I just reinstalled after a few months away from the game, I used to get a soli 80 FPS if not more on my fave map Fuel Dump.

Now after the reinstall I get 40 going down to 20.

It’s jsut not playable.

Whats wrong? :frowning:

Come on, I’m just a girl in need of some help. :frowning:

Whats the latest thing you installed since it happened? Some of those probs can be cause of spy ware, virusscanners and a firewall. Btw are you sure you don’t have the fps capped at 40?

do you find fluttering your e-eyelashes gets you far?

reminds me of that bird off the fast show…

Which car goes faster? The red or blue one?

You know, you should really have a ghost backup of your machine just after you installed all the specific drivers for your mobo, graphcis and sound stuff - keeps things nice and simple, just archive off the stuff you want to keep and reinstall the ghost image.

I’d recommend you do this now - bite the bullet, archive off what you want to keep and format your drive. Install everything as new and make the ghost archive starting today - it should only take a couple of hours…

It would help to know which motherboard you have and which OS you’re using. You’re saying you reinstalled. Just the game or the entire OS? Did you install the drivers for the motherboard chipset as well? Which version of those are you using?

Oh, and which video card do you really have? A Ti4400 or Ti4600? A 4500 doesn’t exist…

Cheers.

or u could just try tweaking the shit out of ur enemy territory and see if u get a better performance…

i had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, for me it was solved when i changed drivers, i used to run 52.13 or smth and installed 56.64 (i think). Maybe you should try it aswell, dont forget to make sure you really uninstalled the old ones tho.

Ok… your barton is ats 2.1ghz thats around 3000xp (rating) so thats not your limiting factor anyway.

You said u did a reinstall if so im guessing your system. What modle of motherboard do you have? If it has a VIA chipset make shure you install the VIA 4n1 drivers (now known as hypertron or some crap), if its a nfoce chipset be shure to visit nvidia.com to get the latest drivers from there.

As for video driver’s since yu said you have a g4 i wouldnt recomend any of the 50.+ drivers as thay are all made for the FX range, best sticking to an older set of 40+ det’s.

Your G4 (if its a real G4 and not an MX) should have no trouble at all running ET with your current CPU. Infact in most case’s your cpu could still be the limiting factor (as mine is with my 9800pro). You should beable to run ET @ 1024rez everything max without a problem at over 76fps (i cap mine there) most of the time.

Anyway just to recap… make shure u have the motherboard drivers installed as it sounds like you forgot that when you did a reinstall :), also creative sound drivers can cause ET to have pause spike’s and a fragmented h/d could also cause low frame rates.

ops something i forgot, my ET did that when i imaged my 40gig h/d over to my 80gig ( to save installing windows blabla), man did that kill practicly anything i did and a full format/reinstall was requierd to fix.
