Real HDR in Quake Wars

(General.Jung) #1

Hello Forum,

will Quake Wars use real HDR-Effects or Fake Effects, actually i use a NVIDIA 7900GT but i want get full the Anti-Aliasing Support. I know what i have to do, i need no technical recommends. I only want to know what Effect are use in Quake Wars.

I don’t think they use true HDR, it will prolly be the older “bloom” effect.

(kamikazee) #3

No, this game probably uses bloom. AA should be possible, though you would need to have a good machine to be able to handle it.

Don’t forget this is a MP game, and FPS is king!

Hello Forum,

thanks for your posts, thats sounds good.

(einer) #5

Whats the bloom effect at all? Some screens?

(kamikazee) #6

It is an effect where bright colours bleed into other fields.
A lot of Doom 3 mods added it but over-used it. You have to see a “before and after” photo sequence to really notice the difference when it’s done right.

I think bloom looks ugly… I have never seen any good use of it yet.

If the HDR effect can be disabled no serious gamer will ever use it. It reduces the enemy visibility.

(kamikazee) #9

That’s just another example of it being over-used.

Bloom is nice as long as you can’t notice it without comparing it to a normal picture.

It’s popular to trash-talk Bloom/HDR/Motion-blur/Depth of field and other “next-gen” features, but I enjoy the nice visual effects when done right. Especially when they can be used in a way that influences gameplay, like for nice looking nightvision, or how the Predator on AvP games had to use the various visual filters to lock on to enemies for the laser cannon.

I know I’m not particularly competitive, and I plan to play ET:QW only casually due to time constraints so my opinions will differ from a lot of you. Still, I don’t understand how “pros” can play their games so horrible looking - I like to leave things at a happy medium between performance and aesthetic appearance.

(kamikazee) #11

FPS is king, as I said earlier. The hardcore uber-gamers just prioritize it over nothing else.

(carnage) #12

i dont like to turn graphics down to play pro gamer style but the over use of bloom in pretty much every game that supports it make it just too inconvenient to use regardless of any fps issues

(General.Jung) #13

Hello Forum,

i prefer the highest graphic settings, but it shall also run with a high framerate. Thanks foryour replies.

(Salteh) #14

Argh!

Don’t use “hello forum,” in EVERY forum post, we already know you’re talking to the forum :stuck_out_tongue:

(kamikazee) #15

Hello Salteh,

Using the previous poster’s name doesn’t seem any better. Thank you for your patience nonetheless.

(SniperSteve) #16

Hello Forum,

I agree that the usage of ‘Hello Forum’ is very annoying. Why not just ask the question?

(me666) #17

…and i thought the reason for showing the etqw 8800 launch trailer was the benefit of hdr with aa…

(General.Jung) #18

Hello Forum,

excite about using of “Hello Forum” - what a reason - How old are you guys. <- This no Question. I thought its happening a discussion based on the know, but for you have to know something. But it is also possible to get many post by this way.

Hmmm, tnx for answer.
So R6Vegas for example uses bloom, thats why it has this stupid blur that hurts my eyes  ? (good that i only tried the game).

I have problems with C&C3, it has blur and that strong that my eyes have much work to focus the picture, how can i turn this bloom off? I like the picture better when i zoom 2 times in, than it has no blur, but the picture is than to small.
