Readers award (a vote) goes to...

(Loffy) #1

Apparently, our favorite fps won an award (again).
It’s described on this site: http://www.splashdamage.com/
PC-Format’s readers voted for ET as nr 1 for 2003.
Well done SD!

Afaik, cant remember topic, they won a GameSpy Multiplayer GOTY award. Anyone else know of anything?

Its hard to believe tho that for such a big thing (Yes, basically, A FREE ONLINE FIRST PERSON SHOOTER THATS BETTERING RTCW + Q3 TOGETHER) hasn’t recieved as much coverage as it should’ve imo. Im a subscriber to PC Zone in the UK obv and only over 2 months (2 Issues) it had a slight bit of coverage. One month was a brief preview when they did a Developer Tour of the UK and visited our beloved SD, points and laffs at dev’s pics… waves to Paul, and another was in there Multiplayer Section when they did a quick ‘Getting Started in… ET’ guide which tbh, was also laughable. It more or less explained a/ How to connect to the PC Zone server. b/ Move. c/ Change controls. d/ What a Medic and Engy do, but not HOW to do the things. And that was it really… Not saw much in other mags i’ve picked up and glanced through, what about PC Gamer… anything in there? Not read that in years…

/me slaps pgh
www.splashdamage.com you silly one
“Enemy Territoryâ„¢ Wins 2003 GameSpy PC Multiplayer Game of the Year!”

Mags… yeh…

Looked in the dutch pc Zone yesterday… they had a ‘best of 2003’ - ET wasn’t even mentioned :frowning:

(pgh) #4

Not suprised tbh. There top 5 online only games is 4 HL mods and the 5th varies between a random Q3/UT2/UT2k3 mod.

And I cant visit sd.com  Comes up as a games site… o.0 the forums on the other hand…

Well done SD, but we want more (well I do anyway) - more maps, official patches and most definately a new and groovier version that runs on the Doom3 engine with ‘wimmin’ models who’s boobs wobble realistically like in DOA3 or Beach Volleyball  (those elite guard from RtCW will do for starters  - did ‘id’ add realtime boob physics into the Doom3 engine? It’s important I know :eek2:

Danke SD and Congrats. Well deserved these awards.

Everyone knows that if they make a RTCW2 or ET2 we would all go out and pay big $$$$ for it. /me hopes they do.

Heck, ive gotten so much fun outta ET for free…id gladly pay for sometype of ET expansion pack (new maps, skins, weapons, whatever, did i mention new maps?) that was available from SD strickly by download and not sold in stores.

Finish those other maps and add a couple a things and I know about 1000 or so people would cough up $20 each…including myself.

Hi Piggy, long time no see!

Which issue of PC Zone had a photo of us? Do you still have it?

Paul/Locki.

(evilsock) #10

Sorry, but I’m gunna have to pick you up on that one Piggy m8 - it may well be that the line ‘please SD support ET and let us know sometime if you have been asked to do any kind of follow-up’ has been done to death but you know ppl wouldn’t say those things if they thought ET was crap - free does not automatically mean good, and good it certainly is.

ET is a great gesture in a long line of great gestures that id related software (whoever the 3rd party devco is) has (don’t care what the circumstances are for it being free either). This tradition of playable shareware (which ET kinda falls into) creates a massive amount of interest and goodwill - don’t spoil it just because you’ve heard it a million times before.

To have active community support from map makers and developers is a big deal imo - how many ppl have flocked to what is essentially unfinished software - a showcase of nextgen MP game perhaps, but unfinished.

3rd party developers have patched the crap out of it to make it competition ready and lots of independant map makers have got to grips with radiant to produce new maps. Last but not least, lets not forget the amount of ppl who have dedicated serious time to the game because frankly, it’s worth it - it’s not like anyones ‘stalking’ the SD developers or anything :open_mouth:

If the bottom line is STFU and leave it alone already, then why release the fucker in the first place? Why bother with a forum when it must be pretty obvious that ppl will ask the obvious question (albeit over and over)?

I’m not having a pop at you, I’d just appreciate a little more patience for ppl who clearly love the game.

/me sits back and waits to have the crap flamed out of me

Yeh Paul, was a few months back, could be August/Sep… U remember Colin?

Aye tho, still have it if you want it sent down… was a two/three page feature and you were talking about ET, Acti/ID and the UK Game Developers Scene iirc. Will look it out…

Think there was a picture of Fluffy in it too. :blah:
